Auburn's Excuse of Being Young Doesn't Add Up

I understand that Auburn has a young team and they lost a lot last year. But, I think their struggle is more that they were totally dependent on one of the best players in a generation or two and after losing Cam, they are lost.

LSU is also a young team. Our core of playmakers are sophomores, basically. But, this is one of the most dominant teams we've seen in a while.

Being young doesn't matter as much as the Auburn people are saying. Being young, untalented, and having poor coaching DOES make a big difference, though, and that is what I think is really happening at Auburn. Plus, they have no QB at all, and LSU fans can tell you how bad that hurts from our experience in 2008 and 2009.

LSU lost (30) players from last year's roster including almost the entire starting OL & DL?

What? How is this a flame? It is an observation of what I am seeing from Auburn. I live in Alabama so I keep hearing all over the place how young they are and that is why they are struggling. I disagree so I wanted to talk about it.

If I am wrong, tell me. It's called a discussion. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't think that I am. I think there are bigger problems on the Plains than the team being young. Prove me wrong.

Not biting on your flame.

That being said, Auburn had a youth excuse at the beginning of the season in regards to the Utah State and Clemson debacles. The clusterfrick that we watched at the end(LSU/UGA/UA) was a result of them not developing properly, which I rest at the coaches' feet.

It's very possible that you want this to be a serious discussion

but you HAVE to realize that this topic will degrade almost immediately into a decadent flame war

It's amazing what happens to a football team when the OL/DL improve drastically. I wouldn't even begin to fathom how many times this topic has been raped. Even Antoine is astounded.

That's right. You call not praising Alabama "flaming."

This is an "SEC" message board, not a homer board, right? So, what's the problem?

Do people really think that Auburn's struggles are because they are young? Or, is there more going on fundamentally?

How many posts from Bama/Auburn/fans of every other team did we endure in 2008 and 2009 when LSU struggled that called Miles an idiot, etc? But, there were other things going on, notably, a terrible OC and major QB problems. It wasn't because we were young. We had fundamental problems, including a real lack of team leadership in 2008.

We see that now. We couldn't see it then.

Thanks. That is what I was asking about. I am generally not an Auburn hater and am not trying to pile on to a bad season. I remember how we felt in 2008 after winning the NC. 7-5 in the regular season just like you guys.

Just wondering if others were seeing bigger problems than just youth.

Out of 120 Division 1 teams no team returned fewer players from the previous year than Auburn. But then again you might have a point.

I'll take 8 sophmores with 2 or 3 years in the program over 6 or 7 Freshmen who have only been in the program since August any day.

You say that a lot, BHP. Stop the self-loathing.

I am not trying to flame. I am actually making a serious point. We had bigger problems in 2008 than we thought, notably a lack of team leadership and an OC that was a wreck. We blamed Miles and the QBs (it was partially their fault, obviously), but the problems were deeper and we can only see that in hindsight.

Miles fixed the OC, the lines got deeper, and the QBs matured. Things got better. They can at Auburn too, but just throwing out that they are young is not the whole story.
