I'm sorry- but this kid got ripped off. The punter from FSU was the 1st Team All-America choice- but I just don't see how he was a bigger weapon than Wing.

Shawn Powell, FSU: 49 punts for a 47.0 yard avg.
FSU opponents had 18 punt returns for 143 yards / a 7.9 yard avg.
21 punts inside opp 20
21 punts 50+ yards
Longest punt: 69 yards

Brad Wing, LSU: 57 punts for a 43.8 yard avg.
LSU opponents had 17 punt returns for 6 yards / a 0.4 yard avg.
23 punts inside opp 20
18 punts 50+ yards
Longest punt: 73 yards

Yeah, I'm an LSU guy. And I understand that we've got some DAMN STRONG special teams coverage operators out there covering those punts.....But come on, man! How about asking our opponents what they think of Brad Wing??? How many times did he pin them inside their own 10- much less 20 yard line?

Rant over now.

LSU are the raiders of college football. Everyone hates you. The refs, the media and even the president. You will never get the respect you deserve.

I agree, I actually think he's the best punter I've ever seen in college. He can make Joe Adams a spectator.

I don't either. Wing is a solid punter and the return average on his punts is amazing. I def think he should have gotten the nod.

Of course. I don't know WHY they don't realize that they should just fax in the LSU roster for their All America and Heisman votes. They are so damn biased.

Maybe it's because he's a freshman?

You can make your sarcastic remarks all you want but it doesnt change the fact that Wing was the better punter.

Maybe its because they were voting for the punter, and not his coverage team?

Your options were to agree/disagree with the OP, or be a douchebag. It looks like you chose the latter

Which AA team? There are several.

I think I have only seen one: AFCA

This is pretty dumb. Wing's hangtime is what gets the coverage team down the field.

The .4 yards/return is probably an NCAA record. At minimum its the best since 2000. That is a pretty big deal.

Wing as an all american should be a no brainer.

That Auburn's punter is a finalist for the Ray Guy award over Wing is a complete joke.

Maybe they have something against Aussies?

Hey- that can't be any more ridiculous than him not being on the 1st team, right?

Seriously- I just think he deserved it. And I'd be saying that if he were at (for instance) Ole Miss instead of LSU....

Oh, is there an Average Hang Time stat? I missed that one. How did his actually compare to the FSU punter?

Its only the first AA team thats been announced, AND he has comparable punting stats AND people have watched other games than just LSU. For all you know he got one vote more than Wing, yet everyone is OUTRAAAAAAGED....

He's not only the best LSU punter as a true freshman, he's the best punter I've ever seen. For him not to win that award this year is a joke. No purple and gold glasses here. He is a legitimate weapon on a stacked #1 football team. Anyone arguing against this simply hasn't been watching the games.
