Hou Chron reporting his fate to be decided today. If he's canned- think they'd take a look at Mullen or Smart?

How could they NOT take a look at Smart, if he'd be willing to leave?

Smart is #1 I believe. Sumlin would a great addition too but I think they're trying to get away from hiring former A&M coaches or anyone associated with the university.

They need to fire Sherman and start fresh. You have to pin some of their second half collapses on coaching, if not all of them. The punts against Arkansas on 4th and less than 1 were painful to watch.

I don't get the Smart love. He's totally unproven as a HC, he coaches the same side of the ball as Saban so who knows how much influence he really has on that defense and Saban disciples haven't exactly been setting the world on fire.

A&M vs. Ole Miss... is either really better than the other?

This. Muschamp was a DC in name only under $aban, and Dooley wasn't even that.

Jimbo started the season on fire, then faded, but did beat UF and SHOULD have FSU on the road back.

If they don't hire Sumlin they'd be making a mistake IMO.

I pinged a good friend of mine who is on staff at UH. His response was that Sumlin has an $8MM buyout the Aggies would have to pay, on top of the $12MM they have to pay to leave the Big XII. Also, how much more would they have to pay Sherman?

Sucks to have another 4 and done coach, but Sherman had a golden opportunity to head to the SEC with a full head of steam, and fricked up royally. Time to turn the page and start fresh.

$8m? where did your friend get that info?

The buyout clause is $600,000 from Jan. 3, 2010 through Jan. 2, 2013; $400,000 from Jan. 3, 2013 through Jan. 2, 2014; $200,000 from Jan. 3, 2014 through Jan. 2, 2015; and $50,000 from Jan. 3, 2015 through Jan. 2, 2016.
