Given LSU's resume if they beat Arkansas and Georgia there is a legitimate argument to be made that the AP National Championship should ready be theirs, unless they lose the BCSNCG by a large margin.

This argument is as legitimate, or more so than any made for Alabama getting another shot. Neither case would make sense any other year, but this year it would.

If they split the games and LSU ends up with one more win, an SEC Championship and a SEC West Championship (both titles that Alabama was pursuing) at best they should earn a split in the National Championship. Anything else would be horse crap.

Prepare for writers to start making this argument if LSU does beat Arkansas and Georgia.

Crystal is all that matters. Ask any of your fellow fans after 2003.

You would claim that title when you didn't even win your bowl game?

Pathetic.

frick that. The AP means nothing and if LSU has to step on Bama (again) to get it, then so be it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa ... a Bama fan talking about claimed titles? Check that 1964 "national championship" for the bowl situation.

Regardless, it's all about the crystal.

If Bama wins the NCCG they should win the AP on top of the crystal. I don't understand what all the fuss is about, tbh. LSU (assuming we win next 2) is supposed to play the next best team in the nation in the BCS title game. If that team happens to be Alabama, then that's who we have to beat to national champions. If we're the better team, which I personally believe that we are, then we will beat them even more decisively this time around. If we can't beat Bama when the NC is on the line, then they're the better team and deserve it more than we do.

Hell no. That would legitamize USCw's '03 AP title and I have personally spent hundreds of hours crying online about how unsportsmanlike it was for their administration to claim that as a legit title. LSU fans have won that '03 argument; no one in the media even mentions the Trojan's claim without a caveat that it is not universally recognized.

I would rather LSU win the crystal of course that is not the point, and all this is hypothetical.

What I don’t get is how after having the only PERFECT season in major conference play that would include 7-8 wins against ranked teams, an undisputed SEC Championship and a road win over the BCS Champion some LSU fans would rather have NOTHING to show for?!?!? Even if it is with an asterisk or whatever, I’m not saying it’s better than winning everything straight, but it sure as hell beats getting nothing at all.

Nope according to Robert Smith and ESPN ONLY Nick Saban can learn from his mistakes and would easily win the next game.

B/c we all know that LSU did everything in their power to score their 9 points.

They played to Bama's tempo all night and did just what they needed to do. No more, no less. You don't take risk against a team like Bama, you do just what you need to in order to stay ahead.

Next game will be the same thing. Les Miles has easily shown that he is a smart Coach and knows how to play the Chess match of Big Games. He doesn't push the envelope, he does what is needed when it's needed and it's worked in Big games over and over again.

I would think this time around they wouldn't hold their noses up, but judging by their players mouth's they'll probably come in with the same attitude.....and lose again.

And how sweet will it be when they have to eat their words when we prove it again when everything is on the line? If we lose when we know what's on the line then Bama is the better team and deserves the national title and we don't.

I bet you were King of the Whiners in 2003 when the AP voted USC #1 --- If you were old enough to watch football then.

It's also being talked about here. LINK
quote:

If the regular season matters, then LSU — if it wins out — can make a case that there shouldn’t even be a BCS title game this season.

quote:

The Tigers, if they beat No. 3 Arkansas on Friday and No. 13 Georgia the following week in the SEC championship game, should win by acclimation.

Consider not just that they have already beaten the most qualified contender, Alabama, on its home field.

But mull this over too: if LSU finishes the regular season unbeaten, it will have done so with victories against three teams that are quite likely to be in BCS bowl games (No. 2 Alabama, No. 9 Oregon and West Virginia, which has the inside track to the Big East title). None of those wins came at home.

The Tigers will play eight games against teams that were ranked when they met and only their 9-6 overtime win at Alabama has been closer than 13 points.

If the point of the BCS is to match up the two best teams in the country, then what’s the point? It already happened less than three weeks ago and we know who won.

How's this for sad? You get to play b/c the rest of college football is so sorry, there just isn't anybody else?
