How in the hell has SEC basketball fallen so badly in recent years? I mean, Coastal Carolina, Elon, Cleveland State, and Akron have all beaten SEC teams this year. And Im not flaming on the SEC teams that have lost to these people, Arkansas is bound to lose to some shite team this year also. Im just making a point.

Why has it gotten so bad? I just don't get it, its fricking terrible.

Because in the SEC:

Football

Basketball

Baseball

Unless you are Kentucky or Vanderbilt.

The past couple years you've had some young teams and new coaches across the board.

They also tend to perform better at the end of the season. More than a couple times we've had as many SEC teams advance in the NCAA Tournament then the Big East despite almost half as many bids.

But in all seriousness it's a consistency issue.

I get that football reigns supreme. But it wasn't long ago that us getting 8 teams in the tourney was a given. Now we will be lucky to have 6.

we are a football conference. not basketball conference.

Besides, I will take our baseball any day over basketball anyways.

I keep hearing Alabama hype... they are still going to suck in basketball... it's the sec.

That's the easy answer people love to use, but it's really nothing but an excuse. Not to mention, it doesn't make any sense.

We haven't been the last several years. That's my point. If Kentucky can have 8 win seasons in football, there's no reason most SEC schools can't be decent at basketball. It's much easier to field a competitive basketball team than football. And not just because we're in the SEC.

The real reason is that the universities see no reason to invest in it because the majority of SEC fans are exactly like you: Worried they'll somehow be less "SEC" for liking basketball or having a decent team. You see it all the time here.

It's kinda hilarious how some fan bases (obviously not Bama) would rather be a pathetic or mediocre football school than a "basketball school". Or they act like it's impossible to be good or even decent at both. It all comes down to insecurity.

The SEC was great in the 90's and will be again. I've noticed a few schools paying coaches lately and the addition of TAMU should help. Mizzou has a very mediocre basketball history, but they might get another Elite 8 someday.

BTW....Doesn't it just feel good to have Mike Anderson back? You know it does UK! Hope it's fun again!

Lack of good coaches, IMO.

SEC has only 3, maybe 4 coaches who have proven they can win at a high level consistently.

First, I like pretty much everything you have to say, usually. Second, I'm not really a basketball fan. But when nothing else is going on, I'll watch it. But surely you don't really believe this?
