What if LSU were to lose to Arkansas, could LSU still play for the BCSNC?

Let's say Arkansas beats LSU and passes LSU in the polls. Would LSU be behind Bama in the BCS? If not, Arkansas would advance to the SEC Championship game. With an Arkansas SEC championship and an OU win in Bedlam, who would you put in the BCS?
The main players would be Arkansas, Bama, LSU, Oregon, OU, and OSU.
Of those teams, LSU is 2-1. OU would be 1-0 with a bad TT loss. Bama would be 1-1. Arkansas 1-1. Oregon and OSU would be 0-1.
If Arkansas wins the SEC, you would have to put them in as #1. Who is No. 2? LSU or OSU that lost their last games? Or Bama or Oregon teams that LSU beat on the field? Or an OU team with that inexplicable home loss to Texas Tech?
I guess Bama fans could claim to be undefeated in regulation. My gut says it would be Oregon. They lost the first game of the year against LSU. They will have actually won a conference championship game. But I don't know. What do you all think?

I think it would be Arkansas/Oregon for the NC, LSU in the Sugar, Bama Capital One.

If LSU loses to Arky, Bama will be the top ranked SEC team.

Ok LSU fans, heres one of your own wondering if you should go to the BCSCG if you don't win your division or conference: tell him how foolish that is.

IMHO it should look like this
Alabama and Oregon if OSU loses
Alabama and OSU if OSU wins
Alabama and Oregon if OSU loses
Alabama and OSU if OSU wins

If Arky beats Lsu who would actually represent the west in the sec champ game?
Posted on 11/13/11 at 8:38 am to Terry the Tiger
Arkansas has to pass Bama in the BCS in order to go to the SECCG - not happening unless Bama loses.
Arkansas has to pass LSU in order for Bama to go to the SECCG - this is possible with a beatdown of LSU.
A close win by Arky leaves them out and puts LSU still in SECCG IMO.

I don't think anyone knows. How the computers rank teams is still not fully disclosed.
It's fun to talk about though.

If the BCS rankings are Bama, LSU, Arky after that, LSU still goes to the SECCG. If LSU then wins the SEC, see UGA '07.

Danielson showed the tie breakers last night. If teams are ranked with in 5 in the BCS then the head to head comes in to play. I am assuming that means margin of victory??

[update 11.06.2010] This information could be very important to Arkansas considering how jumbled up the SEC West is becoming.
Many of you are curious about the rules when it comes to a tie in the SEC. Who wins the division and how do you determine the winner? Here are the official rules taken from the SEC website:
A. TWO-TEAM TIE
1. Head-to-head competition between the two tied teams.
2. Records of the tied teams within the division.
3. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall record (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
4. Overall record vs. all common non-divisional opponents.
5. Combined record vs. all common non-divisional teams.
6. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
7. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game.
B. THREE (OR MORE) TEAM TIE
1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)
2. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.
3. Record of the tied teams within the division.
4. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
5. Overall record vs. non-division teams.
6. Combined record vs. all common non-divisional teams.
7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.

Based on a 3-way tie between Arky, Bama, and LSU with them all beating each other, it would fall to the BCS rankings. Whoever is highest goes... UNLESS the next team is within 5 spots. Then it goes to head-to-head.
Regardless of order, these teams will be within 5 spots. For the sake of argument though:
#2 Bama
#8 LSU
#9 Arky
Bama goes
#2 Bama
#7 LSU
#8 Arky
LSU goes because they are within 5 spots and won head-to-head.

From the SEC website: SEC Divisional Tie-Breaker

7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
8. The likely case for each team IF LSU loses to Arkansas and Bama remains undefeated:
Arkansas - Ark must jump Bama in the BCS rankings, but LSU cannot fall below Bama. Ark would also go if they move 5 places ahead of Bama, but that won't happen.
Bama - Ark must jump LSU in the BCS rankings OR if Ark doesn't jump LSU, they both remain outside of 5 places in the BCS rankings e.g. Bama 1, LSU 6, Ark 7
LSU - Bama remains ahead of Ark in the BCS rankings. Again, Bama and Ark could be outside 5 places of LSU, but won't happen.
Personally, I think LSU has the best shot based on these scenarios. Best hope for Arkansas is, of course, a win over LSU and Bama loss to Auburn.

Arkansas would be way higher than 8th if they beat us...
there is a much greater chance of it being:
#1 Okie Light
#2 Bama
#3 Arkansas
#4 LSU
than
#1 OkSt
#2 Bama
#3 Oregon
#4 Clemson
#5 Virginia Tech
#6 Houston
#7 LSU
#8 Arkansas
3-6 were just put there at random to show my point

If you lose to arky you will drop out of the top 5. Arkansas will pass you in bcs. Bama will go since they have the tie breaker over arky.
LSU has not won anything yet, they better just win out.

...and when Ark loses in the SEC championship game, it's LSU vs. Bama in the BCS Championship. Not one, but two non division winners from the same division!! BCS haters go crazy.

Each team will have two scenarios in which it can go to Atlanta with a 3 way tie.
For Arkansas the rankings would have to look like this....
LSU
Arkansas
Alabama

LSU
ALabama

Looking @ some of this weeks BCS predictors, this could turn into a real cluster frick. Arkansas may jump OU this week and be #5. That means the West will have 3 teams in the BCS top 5.
