I was worried. But then I looked over on the sideline,saw Saban, & felt better

Nicholas Milhouse Saban, playing NOT TO LOSE yet again.
LSU fans made the argument all week long. We KNEW we had the most important intangible, the overall relaxed, loose personality " swag" of our team, which is created by our uber-relaxed, goofy, easy-to-ridicule, regular- guy, Rotary Club Coach.
Everything about Alabama football is now FEAR-BASED. Fear of failure pervades the program. And it worked early when the players had never heard that message before. But their players sense SABAN IS CONTROLLED BY FEAR and just as importantly CONTROLS BY FEAR. Fear of failure, fear of losing control, fear of making mistakes,etc. Those long, low-percentage failed FG attempts are exhibit A. That was truly fear-based decision-making.
There is no joy in that program. There is only fear of failure. For all of Saban's MANY, MANY talents, his fear of failure, and the way that his team embodies it, is always his undoing in BIG games.

Coaching and the kicking game won it for LSU. Saban's temper tandrums vs Miles' calmness was huge.
I have no idea what Saban was thinking or doing having that guy try those kicks in the first and second. That guy was so screwed up there was no way he was going to make that one at the end--not that a 52 yder is a gimme in the NFL. That OT drive for Alabama is all on Little Nickie.

I bet he cried a bit at some point.
He was wound sooooooo tight it was scary.
I respect the man,he's THE alltime Alpha Male, but he has some clear Shakespearean tragedy qualities.

This was part of his plan to divert the attention away from himself. He puts the kicker out there... the kicker misses... Kicker's fault right? Saban has someone else to blame.

Guys like Saban are in constant danger of "losing the locker room".
Especially during times when talent wanes and leadership is down.
"Fear-based" coaching usually has a VERY limited shelf life.
Herb Brooks for instance, was the greatest coach on the planet for ONE YEAR, but one of the worst in year three.

This has bothered me. It's not like he missed chip shots. He missed two kicks over 50 yards and two others of 44 and 49 yards. And hit a 46 yarder.
I mean, the 50 yarders were pipe dreams and then the kicker went 1-3 on kicks between 44 and 49 yards, which strikes me as about what you'd expect.

The fact that Saban's Corncob- up- has- arse-ism effects his team in a detrimental fashion is FINALLY being realized by Bama fans and the talking heads.
