sounds out of place being an Alabama broadcaster.

Bama fans have been asking themselves that question for years. If you find out, let me know.

He was the voice of Nascar before.
ETA: I love Eli, and don't understand all the hate he gets.

Haha! Yeah, I've often wondered that myself.

Do what? It's always been common knowledge that he was from Brooklyn. He's been the play-by-play guy since '88.

And a minor league hockey team before that...

He reminds me of Jim Mandich (RIP), the former Dolphins color commentator.

However it happened, I hope there is never a radio guy from there again. He has a good and iconic voice, but dammit if I can't ever understand what is going on during the game when he talks. I swear, every time there is a -5 yard run or something for bama, it sounds like they gain 10 or so.

Amen. He sucks if you want to know what is going on in the game.

The response was in reference to how he became the Tide announcer.
Many Bama fans think he is a poor announcer, couple that with the fact that he is not from the state and has no prior connection to the University, and it makes you wonder how the frick he got the job.

Ten years as a Hockey announcer for different organizations eventually landed him in Birmingham with the Birmingham Bulls. Then he got into sports talk radio and sports news on local television there. Then he picked up other gigs. Alabama being one of them.

I don't mean to bash the guy either, cause whenever you hear him, you think Bama football. i just remember listening to one game back when Alexander was there. Eli was going on and on about SA breaking tackels left and right, really fighting for the extra yard. Never said how far he got. Then he just goes, alright now the Tide line up for 2nd and 16. I was just like, WTF??

I guess he's not as great as the befuddled old John Forney...

Big frickin' deal. Thats the mindset that got us Shula and DuBose.

Well if you are going for a mediocre announcer or coach, you might as well keep it in the family. The University went outside the family and got mediocrity. That's just wrong.
