1) What are your top 3 coaches you would want?

2) Would you accept Paul Petrino? -Bobby's bro who has turned Illinois offense around. Pro-style, no nonsense approach (no Wild Rebel)

I envision you all hiring a good up-and comer.

Bobby would never let Paulie take that job.

These OM coaching threads are getting ridiculous.

If we had to get a new coach:

1)Kirby Smart
2)Gus Malzahn (sp)
3)Tommy Tuberville (yes I would like to have him back)

I would be open to accepting Paul Petrino.

I can see Malzahn going to Ole Miss. Good recruiting area, plus he recruits Arkansas well. Lower expectations than Big time schools.

Good coaches don't usually want to be assistants forever.

If Malzahn took the job and was successful, he would be gone in 3 years. That's the only thing about Kirby and Gus that would worry me.

Well if he took that job, Saban wouldn't be his boss, so it wouldn't matter.

There's no way Malzahn, Petrino, or Smart take the Ole Miss job. It just won't happen.

Question is - would it be worth it then? Think you could make another good hire in 3-4 years? Let's assume your AD gets fired/leaves.

I don't know.

I about shat myself when Petrino agreed to come to Arkansas. I couldn't believe it. Ole Miss could have that same feeling after dealing with Nutt

Ole Miss wouldn't get that lucky twice.

But with the football expansion that could happen once funds are met, maybe that would help with a keeping a coach like Malzahn or Smart longer.

If, by this, you mean that Saban would counsel him against taking a job that has so much working against it then I agree with you.
If you mean that Saban would never allow him to go to a competing school, just WTF do you think Saban could do to stop him?

at this point, ole miss has pretty much been a dead end for coaches. they might could get a decent coach who would see this as a stepping stone kind of job or maybe a really good coach who just wants an in to a big time, bcs conference.

there is a lot of potential in mississippi. is ole miss willing to pony up, be patient and make it worthwhile for someone to take a chance on them?

Nutt will be @ OM at least 2 more years...

Boone get's the axe 1st...Then Nutt spews more Rah Rah BS for 2 years and makes all the OM faithful all giddy about his recruits....

7-5 or 8-4....Black Bears might keep him for ever...

I don't see a good coach bolting OM ASAP, unless there is a super big opening [e.g. Texas] or something on that level, which is entirely possible. I think OM fans are just worried about the whole Tuberville situation.

If a coach like Malzahn or Paul Petrino [e.g. a big name assistant] takes the job and is successful there, I think they have the chance to be relatively decent and potentially build a winner. OM is in a pretty decently talented area, and there is a bit of a talent pool to draw from. They can focus on keeping the good Mississippi kids in state and then trying to draw from surrounding areas [e.g. mine kids that LSU doesn't offer, reach into Texas with the new TAMU addition, and poach into Memphis and take some Alabama kids].

That could spur up support and allow for fund-raising to improve facilities and the stadium, which could make Ole Miss a more prime destination.

I think Ole Miss' reputation as a bottom feeder has a lot to do with the fact that they've made three consecutive shitty hires at HC with Cutcliffe, Yaw-Yaw, and Nutter Butter.
