Been thinking about something a talking head on one of the talk shows said earlier this week. Don't remember who it was or which ESPN show it was, but basically he said that the Bama and LSU defensive stats are skewed because there are no good QBs in the SEC and (arse beating aside) he even used Geno Smith's success against LSU to prove his point.

He wanted to see how they (Bama/LSU) fared against an Elite QB, such as Landry Jones, Luck, Wilson or Weeden and indicated he didn't think they would do well.

SEC QBs rarely have the gaudy stats as some in other leagues do. But personally, I think it has more to do with style and the defenses they have to face in the SEC. Even the lower teir teams in the SEC play better defense than most teams the 'Elite' QBs face.

Am I right, wrong? Or do SEC QBs generally suck? Would your QB(s) be a successful stat machine in another conference? I'm a Homer for sure, but I think AJ could put up mad stats in another league.

Just curious.

Matt Mauck, Matt Flynn, McElroy, Jay Barker, Tee Martin. Who needs a 300 yard a game passer when you play smart and play defense. Never bothers me that Bama doesn't have a Landry Jones.

Braysus is already a stat machine.

Trying to keep the illusion that other conferences and teams can compete with the SEC.

I think the QBs and teams outside of a select few just suck lots of smelly arse this year.

Our best QBs have been game managers, not world-beaters. Playing QB in the SEC usually means you're also playing alongside the best defenses in the country, so there's no need to have a 300+ yard passer. The SEC is the only conference where there is just as much talent on D as there is on O.

Could we argue Big12 heisman-like qbs numbers are inflated because they dont play defense?

Wilson, Bray, Murray, McCarron, and Lee are pretty good. Russell for MSU showed some potential last week.

That's dumb.

But Sam Bradford got them stats. But McElroy got a ring throwing for like 50 yards in the NCG. That's why Skip Bayless is a moron.

One could argue that those Non-SEC QBs haven't faced an elite SEC defense

I would argue that. College football is on pace to break all kinds of offensive records this year. I think that says more about the defenses than then ofenses.

That's exactly right, and that's the arguement they SHOULD be making.

I think it also has a lot to do with our emphasis on running the ball. Even our spread attacks have been overwhelmingly run-first.

Auburn and Florida's spreads were much more like WV under RichRod than like Texas Tech or Hawaii. Our more-under-the-center-teams obviously have big linemen that specialize in driving DL's off the line.
