Why is that you guys don't recruit better? You have a very nice stadium, campus, weather, and tradition. You're in the SEC and Petrino is winning.

Yet you guys aren't much of a recruiting threat in Texas or really anywhere for the big time guys....Y'all do get some great players and I'm not doubting that good players should want to go there...I'm just confused why they don't.

Just in the 2012 A&M class (a team that y'all have been historically better than and have beaten in Texas the last 3 years), we have I believe 7 guys with Arky offers. (M. Davis, T. Williams, B. Addison, C. Thompson, J. Richmond, E. Porter, and M. Grice)...Hell, last night we just offered Porter and Grice and they committed despite having offers from y'all for awhile...I don't think y'all have any 2012 kids w/ A&M offers, though.

Now I understand that Texas is not your lifeblood, but y'all do recruit there and y'all do border it...so certainly your staff is making it a priority.

I'm not flaming here I'm just genuinely curious why y'all aren't more of a recruiting threat in Texas...

Oh, and I understand that a lot of those Texas kids we have are really close to A&M...I would just think Arky would have snagged a couple at least.

Not sure really. No flame intended but everything have football wise is way better than A&M. We beat you every year as well. I asked myself this question the other day in regards to why you guys do better than us. It makes sense and everything points to us doing better but it never happens..

Grice and Porter both grew up A&M fans, when you guys offered everyone knew what was going to happen there.

We're off to a good start in 2013, with 4* James committed already and lead for 4* Cody Thomas.

Kids grow up on Big 12 football down there while Arkansas is just the 7th best program in the SEC. They don't realize that 7th best in the SEC is still better than all the Big 12 outside of Texas and OU.

The more we play in Texas again it will open some eyes up but at the end of the day we are still 5 hours from Dallas and 10 or so from Houston. It will always be hard to pull the top kids out of there when they can stay home just as easy.

Yeah I don't even see why the OP is making a big deal out of Grice. He was never that high on Arkansas to begin with. Seemed to me that everyone that he was a Tennessee lock until A&M offered.

The only one out of the 7 I thought we had a shot at was Porter but like you said it was no secret that he was a huge A&M fan.

The general point was that it's somewhat surprising that two kids with a major SEC offer jumped on ours immediately despite being very late to the party...(I didn't know Porter was an A&M fan because Porter was an unknown on the A&M recruiting front...he just wasn't reported
on)...

And ya, Grice has said for awhile that he would commit if offered. I just don't see why an Arky offer wouldn't entice him...A&M is not usually the team kids grow up loving in Texas...

Well that I don't agree with...Not everything points to you...and w/o getting in a drawn out discussion about the nuances of what a good program is and what should attract kids, A&M has the great leverage of proximity...So that in an of itself is something that is not pointing in your direction...Moreover, if you can't understand why some other signs don't point to Arky over A&M then you're just not trying hard enough. The facts are the facts..A&M does not have some intangible trump card over Arky...

I certainly think Arky is a good enough program to hit on at least 30 or 40% of the kids they offer in Texas who also hold A&M offers. That, to me, seems to be what the minimum year in and year out result should be.

Grice and Porter are both from Houston. They wanted to stay close to home. I think Arkansas did entice them but not enough to make a move until they knew what ther hometown team was going to do.

Playing time. You guys lose one of your top backs this year, and we have Knile Davis, Ronnie Wingo, Dennis Johnson, Kody Walker, Donovan Roberts and now possibly Jonathan Williams next year at RB.

No way he would have alot of playing time next year. He does only have two years.

That makes a good amount of sense, especially if Michael leaves...Otherwise, he has to deal with CMike and Trey.

I don't think A&M is about playing time for him. I think that Arky's playing time situation was such that he wasn't compelled to go there....which I think is what you're saying.

quite honestly, I don't know if we will ever be a factor in the recruiting race...

That said, its looking better and better that we will have another 10 win season in the toughest division in college football

Cyrus is a senior, so he's gone...But he did turn down the NFL last year if you want to use that as some indication that stud Jr.'s aren't surefire draftees.

CMike may bounce and it's arguable that he's well advised to do so.

Even if Grice wanted to go to Arkansas you would know he would look at the Depth Chart and 2nd guess that.

no exposure in Texas... it's why they're playing a 10 year series in Dallas.

I think the Arkansas upper brass thought the SEC move would've opened up more recruiting in the Southeast.... in reality it greatly limited texas recruiting while they took the leftovers from the likes of LSU, Bama, and Tennessee.... why go 500 miles further from home to play for a lesser program when you could go to a closer SEC powerhouse?

Texas A&M's move to the SEC will also help. Instead of a Big 12 game being on in Southeast Texas television, an SEC with possibly Arkansas will be on television. This will especially help in the Houston Market.

I bet Ark. pulls the offer to James before he ever makes it to campus.

Petrino isn't much of a recruiter. It's as simple as that.
