Arky Fans a serious conversation about Petrino and the running game.

I admit I don't follow arky from week to week but last years sugar bowl really pissed me off.
I pulled for arky....go back and check the in game thread. I really felt Arky had that game with ease if Petrino kept pounding the Rock with Davis.
I know he's hurt but this week leading up to the game I said several times that the running game was the key. Arky fans were quick to tell me it wasn't going to happen and self rationalized how they didn't need a running game.
Whats the deal? Is it injuries or depth or both?
I'm starting to feel like Petrino is just too pass happy.
BTW your QB is the real deal.

O-Line was ineffective. Bama's front 7 is the best in the country

of course we are pass happy, did u see our running game?
as for last year, we had the SEC leader in rushing yards by a RB.

our o line sucks.. freaking Wingo is awful. All he does is tip toe at the line

We all know about bama and how good their D is. This is to take nothing from them
But Petrino needs to figure out he needs to be able to run consistently in the SEC.
Should I not blame Petrino?

I think it has more to do with the defense they were facing. LSU and maybe USCe could be the only two teams that can run against Bama and I am not sure if they could get 100 yards.

We lost Knile Davis, and our second best RB, Dennis Johnson, missed most of last season and had to miss the first 2 games of the season due to a hamstring injury or something. Any team that loses that from their top 2 RB's is probably going to struggle @ Alabama.

Wilson took his beating like a man.
The O-Line is just BAD. No nice way to put it. No OL = poor run game...When the run game is that bad there's no choice but to be freakin' pass happy.

Did Petrino run a balanced attack before this game?

Our passing game has been our forte, but our running game has been decent. Before today, however, we've gotten rushing yards from Joe Adams out of the backfield, positive yards from the QB's, and Kody Walker and De'Anthony Curtis have gotten quite a few carries. We definitely didn't try hard to establish the run, but right now our forte is passing and Bama's d-line against our o-line is a mismtach so I can't blame Petrino for relying on the pass.
Generally, I agree with you that a team has to be able to run the ball to beat Bama and should make that a focus.

Didnt Knile have like 27 carries in the sugar bowl? I think we ran the ball enough
Our OL just wasnt ready to face a D like alabama...we had the same thing happen last year.

Near the end of that game especially on the last drive Davis was taking over.
1 game ok but Petrino is starting to look like a coach that believes he can win it all with passing though explanations above might have something to do with that.

Arkansas have always been 1 dimensional , either great Running game (Mcfaden and co) with terrible QB or the other way around

Arkansas won 10 games last season because we were good at both running and passing. Outside of last season though, I agree with you.

Thats True
Mallet was very good QB , made it easier to run

I think the running game will improve as the season goes on. Just like last year. Tyler Wilson played OK today and proved he is tough. He has been here for four years but still needs some experience running the offense.
Today was a tough lesson. Nobody we play will disquise coverages as effectivly as Saban does.

The two freshmen tackles will only get better.
