Found this tweet from Dan Hicken.

quote:

Dan Hicken on Twitter: "Jeff Demps rumored to be perhaps leaving UF football....might stick to track and field...never was scheduled to go to B'ham for SEC media."

Can any Florida fans shed light on this?? Big loss of a playmaker if this is true. I didn't find anything on the search so sorry if Germans.

not much light to shed. this has been rumored even before Meyer left. the coaching/offensive changes may have made his decision easier.

Anyone know the Money/Scholarship situation associated with this?
track he won't get a Full Ride, but football he does.
So seeing as he leaves is he still on a football scholarship? Or is there something with Nike Or one of the other Track Sponsors (sorry don't follow track) are throwing a lot of money at him?

I meant after he runs track at Florida.
He's not a top 3 round pick in the NFL

Yeah, he will run track for a living not play football

If I were him I would have already stopped playing football, he is risking his career by playing

Well he's still going to class....I'd be surprised if he didn't play ball this fall.

If I were him, I'd be focusing on next summer though

Of course, if this was a Bama player, all we'd here is, "Processed!" or "The Drive for 85!".

Nah, you don't process an athlete like Jeff Demps. You curse under your breathe that he left you for Track

Considering a loss of Demps would put us at 69 or 70(?) scholarship players, our "Drive for 85" has quite a different meaning.

Seems to be 50/50 if he continues with the football team. I believe he has another big meet or two this summer. If his times are "Olympic", look for him to quit football.

Demps would be a fairly substantial loss for Florida. Word is about 50/50 right now from all available online sources.

He'd be good for about 500-600 total yards and 4-5 TD's this year. Now, he'll have to be replaced on the depth chart by Mike Gilislee, who has never had starters carries, or Mack Brown, who has been injured a lot in his career.

Trey Burton might get a legit look at RB if Demps leaves.

Heard Burton was a FB now. Is the FB used in regular formations under Weis and would Burton be the starter? Sorry for breaking topic.

Yes and from what I've heard he may even play some tailback with UF's lack of depth at the position.

He could probably go pro in track right? Sounds like that is where his future is and it sucks but football is a very risky sport.

Track is funny about how that works. It doesn't follow the same rules.

The big names would get their appearance money for the big meets and it would go into a trust. From there they could use a certain amount for living expenses.

It;s changed a little but the only reason I know about this is a couple of dealings I had with some track stars.

One was with Hollis Conway when he was attending USL. That was at the time he won medals at the Olympics and World Championships.

One of Texas' top receivers (Marquise Goodwin) isn't playing this year as he may qualify for the Olympics in track (his sport is long jump).

If Demps can qualify to compete for more power to him.
