Ole Miss

Mississippi State

Southern Mississippi

I did a quick count and MSU has, by a big margin, the highest number of native Mississippians on the football team. This is significant because we have been touted in the past as fostering the highest number of NFL players per capita.

I may have missed one or two but the Rebels have 27, Bulldogs 64 and Golden Eagles 25.

Why do you think this is? Mississippi natives/residents/alumni/current students' inputs are especially wanted. Thanks.

Ole Miss: 4-8
Miss State: 9-4
Southern Miss: 8-5

All that matters in my eyes.

It's not just football. State has the highest percentage of in-state students of any of the big 3 in Mississippi.

I cant speak for others, but I choose State because of two reasons.
1. The people there were very friendly and helpful to me when I visited the campus on a non football game trip.
2. I just felt comfortable there.

Dan Mullen has also said since day 1 that he wants to recruit the best players in Mississippi and sign between 15-18 in state players every year. Also, our marketing recently around Mississippi has been stronger to attract prospective HS students in Mississippi. We also have the Welcome to OUR STATE billboards etc.

Three of State's 4 draft picks are Mississippi natives.

Most Mississippi residents are poor, thus they feel more comfortable at state. /thread

What's up with all the "because your poor" comments lately?

There are students from wealthy, middle class, and poor families at every college in Mississippi.

Ole Miss has as many students recording financial aid and pell grants as State and Southern Miss.

More comfortable because they don't have to walk through a clan rally to get to class.

Two can play this game.

This seems like an extremely stupid idea. Making up to 75% of your signees coming from instate is something that only a handful of programs could do and a Mississippi school isn't one of them.

I'm seriously hopeful that Mullen means that if there are 15-18 MS players worth signing, then he wants them. Although now it seems we just sign MS kids to sign them. /banghead

Mississippi has some good talent, and may have the most per capita, but no way does it have enough to support 2 competitive D-1A programs, even more w/ 3.
