Veteran SEC journalist Jimmy Hyams of WNML Radio in Knoxville, Tenn., conducted a poll of 23 media members covering the SEC spring meetings last week in Destin, Fla...
One of the things he asked was to rank the SEC's top 6 football coaches right now.
Here's the way that vote turned out:
1. Nick Saban, Alabama
2. Steve Spurrier, South Carolina
3. Bobby Petrino, Arkansas
4. Les Miles, LSU
5. Gene Chizik, Auburn
6. Mark Richt, Georgia

I know this is just a poll, but it's better for everyone to disassociate themselves with Jimmy Hyams.

Given that Saban is the only coach in history to win two national championships at two different SEC schools
Wouldn't that be 1 and a 1/2 championships since he had to share with USC?

They probably didn't realize that Chris Relf and his 12 bajillion receivers are coming back this year.
Simple mistake I'm sure.

Second best qb in the league and all that.

I always thought he was well liked up there. We get a strong dose of him as a guest each Thursday during football season (jax sports radio). He's touted as some SEC expert but mispronounces everyone's name.

There are people that have inside info and the track record to prove it, and there are people that think they have good inside info but they are wrong a lot. And then there is Jimmy Hyams who is always wrong. Not just sometimes, either. His track record of predictions has been so awful that the most likely explanation is probably someone in the Athletic Department just lies to Hyams for the fun of it. I think before signing day I believe he said Gabe Wright to Tennessee. That's how I knew it was over.

burned out spurrier is not a top 3 coach in this league. he is nowhere near what he used to be.

All the "Spurrier is washed up nay-sayers" have all vanished after last season. We still haven't accomplished the big goals of winning the SEC and getting to the BCS but even winning the East at SC is huge and has only added to Spurrier legacy.

IMO, Spurrier's still Spurrier, except he's coaching at USC, not UF, and the coaching in the SEC in much better overall than it was when he was at UF. I know these are obvious facts, but they are the reasons for Spurrier's lack of huge success at USC (it's not that he's "burned out").
Only coaches in the SEC I'd take over him are Saban and Petrino.

Winning the East is very, very far down Spurrier's resume. If you guys can't win the conference this year would it be considered a disappointment by your fans?

I love the OBC, but once your breasts start to sag, it's time to move on.
