How much more success could coaches have at Bama than at other schools?

As an example.. we'll take a look at Saban's first four yrs, vs those first four at Lsu. While at this point, the Championships are equal, the wins are not. Factor in that Lsu doesn't compete with another legit Div 1 school in state and it makes me wonder how much more successful Bama could be if it had the state to itself.
@ Bama 43-11 1 National Championship and 2 West Div titles.
@ Lsu 39-13 1 National Championship and 2 West Div titles.
10 wins will likely be very attainable this season and a worst case scenario. Even with that, he'll be 53-14 in 5 yrs, while at Lsu he was 48-17 in 5 yrs. Best case he'll be 56-11.
How much more successful could Miles be if he was at Bama? TTown seems to elevate everyone's game, from Shula.. Dubose... Saban.. I have no doubt it could elevate Miles' success too. I'll hang up and listen.

This would have been much better on the Tiger Rant and you know it.

I think Dubose and Shula are much better examples than Saban. Neither coach would ever sniff a ten win season at any other school besides Alabama.

It helps being at a school where BB coached. However, I don't think the school alone wins games. They sucked before they got Saban...

I agree, they are better examples, but for added emphasis, as good as Saban was at Lsu, he is still even more successful at Bama. No matter the level of coach, there is marked improvement.

true - but based on the numbers you listed in the OP - there were a few more wins - but is that a marked improvement? if he increased his win totals by double digits, then I could see it as a marked improvement - regardless it is an improvement.

If Bama lives up to potential this year.. 8 extra wins in 5 years is pretty impressive. That's almost like an Auburn regular season extra.

Richt was 42-13 in his first 5 years at Georgia, with 3 SEC East Div titles and 2 SECC's.
It's probable, based on your assumptions, that he'd probably be around 50 - 5 with at least 2 MNC's and 4 SECC's at Alabama.

oh you bastard - you just had to get that jab in
FWIW i do agree - its a pretty good improvement. I will say, a lesser coach at UA - i dunno if they could have the same consistency that Saban has - he is a motivator and he gets results - sometimes they slip up and don't finish, but thats kinda a rare thing.
i just don't see anyone other than a top name coach getting the same results - its all about recruiting - and Sbaan gets it done.

No doubt about that.. Dubose and Shula showed that. However, so did the 10 win seasons, show that the school breeds success, no matter how inept the coach may be.

or maybe saban just actually improved as a coach from his time at LSU to his time at bama.
also his qbs at bama play into more wins such as having the ginger ninja opposed to a marcus randal starting who was responsible for most of sabans losses at LSU.

I think you may have missed it when I asked this question the other day, so I'll ask again.
Did you go to Huffman High School?

I can see where your coming from - but I just don't know that they had the ability to pull the talent that a top name coach could - they wre still dealing with other coaches talent around the time they had decent seasons - however when it came to their own recruiting, you saw a falloff. hell Saban had a down 1st season - cause he didnt have his recruiting base in place - once her did.....well we all know where you guys are at now.
Prestige plays a big part in getting kids to want to play at a school - but the Coach plays a bigger role - and a big name Coach will always outdo a smaller time coach.

Very valid point and has alot to do with it too, aside from ULM.

FWIW Hunter - ill take one of thse 8 win seasons this season please

It's possible, with the bowl game. And alot have called me a hater and biased, but I truly believe 7 is going to be the ceiling this yr, counting a bowl game. Yalls schedule is just brutal.. I won't be surprised with 5 to 7 wins this yr with that schedule and lack of depth.

LSU was 3-8 before Saban got there.
