Why are those numbers continued to be used as Saban's base salary? He made those numbers off the 2009 season because of incentives surrounding the national title.

Actually, his salary was originally 8 years, 32 Million... but his base pay increases over time. He started out in 2007 at a little less than 3 Mil I believe... it has increased each year as a part of his original contract. Next year he'll be hauling in over 6 Mil, I believe.
ETA: It all averages out to be about 4 mil per year over 8 years.

No he does not. That's only if the incentives are met. Yes, it increased, but not to that extent.
These are the figures for his base salary due to him before incentives are met. These numbers are current with the contract extension in August of 2009.

I think Kiffin will get stuff done at USC.
Plus, you gotta remember, they lured him away from Tennessee... even if USC is his "dream job", that's not usually gonna be a cheap thing to do.

He got a contract extension... so I'm not sure how that affects the numbers. I don't think that 5 mil number is incentive based though.

I can see him being moderately successful, but I still think he's the most overrated coach in the country by a loooong shot. The only reason he's ever done anything at all in his career and is still employed is because of his dad.

Nothing has changed in his contract since the extension. Yet, people continue to list him making more than Brown because of the incentives collected from the 2009 season.

He's overrated just because he needs to accomplish something on the field to warrant the coverage he gets..
But in college coaching I tend to believe perception is often reality, and as long as he's a hot name and can keep trending upwards, he'll be able to rake in athletes just like Carroll did and compete very well.
