Did Rivals fire that dude? Saw on another board he was looking for a job and was fired.
Anybody read his tweets?

It is common knowledge that recruit's stars are adjusted, USCe coach stated in an interview that he has called and said he felt a player should be evaluated to a 3 from a 2 or a 4 from a 3 before.

I'm sure some Star Gazers will be stunned and disappointed to hear this but it will come as no surprise to the knowable fans who put more stock into how the players perform on the field two or three years into their college career than what they were ranked coming out of high school.
I’m equally sure that gullible fans will continue to put more stock into winning the recruiting ratings war than actual results on the field and then wonder why these “great” recruiting classes just don’t seem to be as great as projected. Nonetheless, these susceptible fans will continue to fill the coffers of recruiting services, like Rivals, and take their superficial evaluations of players as gospel.

That being said if you look at the guys that make the NFL, then the recruiting services do a pretty good job. They do about as well as NFL GMs in predicting success. Coaches, injuries, depth chart, attitude, etc have a lot to do with their success.
In the top 10 of the NFL draft:
5 Star:
Cam
AJ Green
Patrick Peterson
Julio Jones
Tyron Smith
Blaine Gabbert
Considering there are that many more 3 and 4 stars, getting 60% of the top 10 is pretty accurate.
4 star:
Von Miller
Jake Locker (shouldn't have been a top 10 pick)
3 star:
Dareus (should have been a 2 star but Bama players get extra stars on Rivals)
Aldon Smith

These great recruiting classes seem to be working out just fine for Alabama with a 36-5 record, SEC title, and national title since our first #1 class stepped foot on campus. How are all of those average classes working out for Arkansas?

I looked at the numbers several years ago and there is an obvious distortion of player rankings for specific teams. Either that or you have less player development at some schools, I looked at the numbers in the early 2000-2005 and when you look at that several schools outperformed their average 'star" rating and some performed on par or about on par and others performed poorly.
An example of this is Texas and Miami, when you look at the player rating those two schools have they should just about dominate their conference year in and year out and yet Miami sucks and Texas has very good consistent years but they never put it together on a consistent basis and as you could see last year several Texas recruits were just flat overrated.
Hell look at Richt's "Dream Team" from last year, he said his problem is talent and yet UGA consistently is in the top 10 nationally in recruiting.

He was fired by Rivals. That's why you don't mess with the REC.

They are great because of Saban, not because of the ranking someone gives it...

Considering that Saban has signed four #1 classes in the last 11 years, I think that Rivals was doing itself a service by putting a lot of stock into who he offered (as well as other major coaches). I'm not saying that their rankings are flawless, but considering what he's accomplished with said top ranked classes, and where they've been drafted, I think the rankings were justified. Now, Rivals seems to be trying to justify their rankings in some other manner, because of the drama around it.
That all being said, you can sit there as an Arkansas fan and say that recruiting rankings don't matter. That's fine. Each and every player's rankings doesn't. It's the totality of the situation that does. There's a reason that every top ranked class since 2000 has seen a national title during their career.

It's a combination. You have a few different kind of coaches out there that excel in particular traits, and the best ones combine traits from each one.
Recruiting
X's & O's
Motivation
Player development
Tubbs was phenomenal at player development and motivation.
Richt is good at x's and o's and pretty good at recruiting.
Chiz (with the help of trooper and luper especially) is great at recruiting and motivation.
Saban is possibly the best at both recruiting and player develppment, and is also awesome at x's and o's. He can motivate a team to anything if he has something to build that motivation off of, but he SUCKS at creating motivation out of nothing.
