He isn't mature enough right now to carry the burden of being an NFL quarterback, and certainly not ready to have the franchise QB thrown at his feet. Sure losing all that 1st round money hurts, but if he's actually going to be a success this is the best road. He'll have an experienced Tom Brady to learn from, and *hopefully* grow up and become a leader.

Arky posters thoughts? You frickers would be the most likely to have insight here.

I've seen a lot of Arky fans get a little upset that he didn't go higher. It's so much better for him though. It's not as if he doesn't have the potential to be a great NFL quarterback, but there's more to doing it than just that. You gotta be in the right situation. That situation is different for everyone. The position just fits what he needs.

Except for the whole financially being set for life vs. possibly getting cut, I would agree with you.

I love that people think this about Mallett but of course Cam is ready to be the guy.

I never got upset that he didn't go higher, I just wanted him to go to a good team and not be set up for failure.

White guys are held to a higher standard. How many black guys were drafted higher than Mallett that had records.

No one can argue that he was drafted in the best situation to succeed on the field. He has the ability to step in and be a starter day 1, but that probably wouldn't be the best thing for his career unless he had a really good O-line to protect him.

Cam will be thrown in the fire with huge expectations and a big salary and be expected to turn that franchise around. That's going to be a lot of pressure on a guy who just came out of a simplistic spread-run offense where he could overpower and outrun most competition, which won't be the case in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Mallett will be honing his craft behind Tom Brady. Mallett will be able to work on the intricacies of his game where he already has a very solid foundation.

It would have been fun seeing him start next year for Miami, Tennessee, or Minnesota, and he would have gotten a much fatter paycheck to start off his career. But since those NFL GM's made big mistakes and decided to give Ponder, Locker, and Henne chances over him, he'll just have to make the best of his situation in New England and make those GM's look really stupid in 3-5 years.

I'm obviously speaking more on his development as a football player.

I pretty much have the same thoughts on Cam, except he is now expected to be the guy.

True. However, not that it means much, but I think Ponder will be the biggest bust of the QB's taken in the first 3 rounds. It's JMO though.

Same here. While I would like to see him play right away, I think that it's worked out for the best and he's landed in a good situation.

I'll just refer back to the post explaining how this topic is about his growth as a football player...
