Why do QB's oversell the play-action fake?

When running a play-action fake, why do a lot of QB's these days bend down toward the backfield with more emphasis than they usually would if they were actually handing it off? Shouldn't the objective be to run the fake hand-off just like a real hand-off (except the actual hand-off part)? QB's don't typically do such a hard and fast bend on running plays.
I'm watching the Bama spring game and noticed McCarron doing this. I saw Tyler Wilson doing it in Arky's spring game too.

It's a lot better than when Casey Dick used to hold it out away from him at arm's length, where the whole defense could see it was a fake.

Probably cause it works.

Because they are fricking retards.
When going through pre-game warmups and shite, sometimes a QB will go through the motions in an exaggerated way to show the coach that he knows he's supposed to be serious about the fake, even though the team's only going through the plays at half-speed.
When QBs actually do this in games, they are morons, and yes, it is becoming rampant.

Petrino loves doing that then throwing underneath to the TE slanting away from the playaction. Also runs the wheel route a lot with it. Looks strange with the QB standing almost straight up on a PA but is effective most of the time.

To make sure the defense sees the fake and to try to force that wrong step.
The speed of the game + 300 lb linemen trying to knock you on your arse tends to make it hard for Defensive players to analyze if the QB bent down with too much emphasis.

He had nothing on JR though. JaMarcus Russell had the worst play-action fake of all time. God only knows how many yards he screwed his offense out of while he was at LSU on that alone.

I know you're kidding but I actually agree. That was how we ran running plays back then, so when doing the play action, it looked just like a running play until the last second when Dick would pull it out (couldn't resist).
With the way a lot of QB's do it now, they'd do it so quick, hardly even put out the ball, and over-bend so it doesn't even look like a natural hand-off.

I was actually being serious, I remember watching those games and would always be thinking 'why in the hell does he make the play action so obvious".

I know you were serious, my response was worded weirdly. My point was that I think Dick ran an effective fake, just the other parts of the passing game made it not so effective.

now this is playaction ownage
Notice on that play Mallett hardly bends at all. He just puts the ball where he would on an actual quick hand off. If it would make sense for anyone to bend down on a play-action handoff, it would be for Mallett due to his 6'7" height.

Gotcha, btw what ever happened to Nathan Dick? I had heard he was pretty good at one point but never saw him get any playing time

Are you really going to make me google pics of Manning and Favre doing this same shite? Hogville did, now you?

Only 2 QBs have managed to fake me out while watching a game:
1) Tom Brady
2) Ryan Mallett

That makes sense.
