Cam Newton

I will contend Tebow had the best career and was a much better role model. (Keep the 'lack of facts' BS to yourselves.......the kid was/is dirty. In all fairness, many are.) BUT, this year Newton was the most impressive college football player I have ever seen. He could not be stopped.

IMO Bo Jackson was better than Newton at Auburn. As far as all of cfb is concerned? Newton is not even close. The list would be huge and he would be somewhere in the middle or lower.

Barry Sanders.

But Tebow had a better statistical year in 2007.

Newton 165-246 2589 yards 242 rush 1409 yards
Robinson 155-250 2316 yards 245 rush 1643 yards

I actually agree with you but I wanted to throw those stats out there so someone else can disagree. I just wanted to point out that Robinson did not play as much as Newton and was 39 yards short in the big ten.

Hmmmmm.... the Bama contigent takes an intense anti-Newton stance.

The kid's season and his impact to their success was unrivaled. Sanders never single-handedly garnered a perfect season.

Put the hate aside and admit it.

I watched Sanders, Jackson, Herschel.......while all legendary athletes, they did NOT successfully take over games to the extent of forcing a perfect season down opponent's throats.

a good example of why the stats game is flawed. Newton is lightyears ahead of Robinson in terms of game control. More than stats are the game scenarios that are subject to the stats. Apples to oranges.......and Newton was shredding SEC defenses.

I agree. Not only are his stats unreal, but no one player has had a bigger impact on his team winning than Cam Newton did this season.

Nobody is saying he's not among the best. Just saying he is not the all time best. There are too many that have had as good or better seasons than he has. Hell.. Derrick Thomas had 27 sacks and 44 QB hurries in 1988. That's more impressive to me than what Cam did, as pointed out, other QB's have put up similar numbers. Nobody will hit those marks Thomas set.

Barry Sanders in 1988 had 373rushes for 2,850 yards and 42 TDs.

We'll just have to disagree on this one.

Thomas did NOT single-handedly bring in a perfect season. It may be unfair due to the position, but no one team needed a single player more than Auburn did this season. THAT is why he will win the Heisman.

LINK

They lost 2 games........so, he was not able to bring in a perfect season by himself.

You're changing the premise of your OP now. If that's where you're headed, you should title the thread best season by a Heisman winner who went undefeated, ever. BTW, how was it Cam held Bama to a FG in the second half? Seems their defense stepped up big time in the game this year to help win that one. Not exactly all his doing, especially when he had negative yardage on the ground for half the game.

Again, not saying he isn't amongst the best, but best ever.. nah.
