With all this talk about how Bama would make it to the National championship with the one loss they have what about if Auburn's only lose was to a 2 loss Bama?

Say #6 Bama were to lose to the #10 LSU this weekend, but Bama who say is ranked somewhere around 12th after the loss, comes out and beats #2 Auburn. Auburn with one loss would then still go to the SEC championship game. Say they beat a top 25 ranked SEC east school. Do they get the same respect that a 1 loss Bama gets when it comes to the NC game?

If a 1 loss Bama would make it with their only loss being to SC. Then Auburn should be in the discussion if their only loss is too a "better" Bama team.

I say they don't relative mainly to the timing of the loss. End of year losses hurt much more than beginning to mid year losses like Bama has.

Nope. If we lose now, it will be too late in the season to recover.

This is almost an impossibility as of now.

Nope and its a bizarre system really, why would it matter so much if your loss came at the end of the year or the middle of the year? Its not like at Alabama is a bad loss. I mean I wouldn't be heartbroken about it but its so random.

How is it almost impossible? Are you throwing in the towel with this Newton thing?

er, no. If we lose now we'll drop below TCU/Utah and Boise and they won't lose a game this year.

Well yeah, hence the slash.

I'll go ahead and call a TCU win and say that if Auburn loses, ceteris parabus, it'll be Oregon/TCU in Glendale.

IMO, the ONLY way I could see it happening would be Auburn losing to Georgia, then beating Bama and winning the SECCG. Even then, the chances would be very slim.

I'd like to see Oregon take on TCU's defense though.

Just shows the stupidity of the BCS system. An early loss is OK, but a loss late in the season is bad. Yeah. That makes perfect sense.....

The reason LSU got into that national championship was because a lot of teams lost late that year and no team except Hawaii was undefeated against the weakest schedule ever.

Good point with Oklahoma in 03 since they lost the conference championship game 35-7 to Kansas st. That shows how big strength of schedule was that year. But, this Oklahoma team is irrelevant to the situation too because no team was undefeated that year.

P.S. LSU really didn't have a big name prior to 2001

Because if you lose early it can be considered a fluke if you win out. If you lose late in the season they will say you had a great season but ran out of steam or got figured out.

it would be if Bama lost a second game tomorrow. A one loss Auburn team never had a chance and I would say that the only team that could make it out of the SEC with one loss was Alabama. It was that way all year, they started number one so a loss is chalked up as a fluke and they can move back. An Auburn loss is chalked up as just a matter of time before they fell.
