Was it ruled a fumble on the field? I don't recall them throwing the marker.

i mean, i think it has to be fumbled forward.. im not exactly sure..

example.. 4th down play, offense going for it.. ball is snapped over the QBs head.. is the play dead? can the QB not pick it up and try to pass or run?

If it wasn't, then it's an incomplete pass.

It has to be one of the two if the ball hits the ground.

No. By the letter of the law; the SEC officials made a game-changing, bad call.

By the spirit of the law, they made the right call.

I highly doubt there is video of it being enforced.

It's been enforced before, though.

Someone look up the rule definition of a fumble and see if it says a "loose ball" on a lateral pass (or backward pass) is considered a fumble.

A lateral that hits the ground is a fumble.

That's exactly what the rule was put in for.

I think laterals may be a special case, whether it's explicit written that way or not. It's technically a run play, and the holder is a QB on the play. I can't imagine any game EVER where a ref would blow a play dead cause the RB missed a toss on 4th down and then picked it up and ran.

This rule is there so a guy can't fumble the ball forward and another guy advances it for a score. None of which happened on that play.

We got beat by the better team tonight. Why blame the refs or LSU when the answer is staring in our face. We deserved to lose unfortunately.
