Admittedly I missed all but the last two plays of the LSU game. I walked in the door to see the snap and the TD. Stewart Mandel of SI pointed out in his article that on the 4th and 10 play LSU took a time-out and then had a delay of game penalty making it 4th and 15. Did this really happen, and if so why is no one complaining about it?

I vaguelly remember Franchionne having a delay of game penalty on the first play from scrimage of the second half against Tennessee one year. Which I found unbelievable.

people are upset and I think it was really JL's fault that it happened

But on the bright side he turned around and completed a clutch throw for a first down

Granted I didnt see the play in question so did JL not pay attention to the play clock or what? Not stirring it up, but do LSU qb's know how to run a 2 minute offense? If "No" then whose fault is that?

it happened the other way around. they got a delay of game then took a timeout right after that. it looked like the play got in late and then J Lee started to make his pre snap adjustments with only 2 seconds on the clock. then les miles took the timeout. ( i think he just wanted the offense to get an extra 5 yards so the stats look a little better)

It's because Lee hasn't got as much experience this year as he should have. At least he recognized the defense (better than we can say for the other one).

If so then it's still poor clock manegement.

sort of... on this play I think it was a time issue because they were trying to move QBs in and out during the game - not because the coaches didn't know the clock was ticking

I understand being reluctant to change starting QBs but I think the issue has been forced and it's time to just play JL unless he gets hurt or there's a special need for a short side option... running guys in and out doesn't often work and JL may get better with reps

I've been a big JJ supporter but he's played his way out of the starting job IMO

Mandel was wrong.

LSU got a delay of game penalty making it 4th and 15, then they took a timeout after the delay of game penalty.

To be quite honest, I had no problem with us taking the timeout, however, we should've taken it before getting the delay penalty. Taking the delay of game penalty deserves to be criticized. The game basically came down to that play, so I had no issue with burning our last time out to get a solid play called.

We run the 2 minute offense just fine....as long as there are 5 minutes left in the game. I heard it takes Les 80 minutes to watch 60 minutes on Sunday evenings.

No. I know you want to hear Miles, but I think it's Crowton. We didn't have trouble like this until Crowton arrived. Besides just going with what's working, he tries to do too much by substituting players constantly and going into too many formations, often confusing the QB. Hence the delay of game/TO sequence.

Sound similar to McElroy calling timeout with 3 seconds left in the 1st quarter. Had plenty of time on the playclock just to let the time run out. Poor Clock Management!

On 4th and 9, Jarret Lee was at fault for the delay of game. For one of the few times, I blame the player, not the coach. LSU was at the line with 9 seconds left on the play clock, and then Jarret Lee was studying the defense for far too long. But then, after the delay, the offense didn't even get out of the huddle until less than 10 seconds left on the play clock, and there was much confusion, so Jarret Lee signaled for time out. It was not a situation where the coaches thought, let's make this play count. There was much confusion in between the two plays.

Not quite. It was the other way around. We had a delay of game penalty, and then had to call timeout to avoid getting another one.

They took timeout, then got delay of game and then took another timeout!

It worked didn't it. The mass confusion in the last few seconds, fooled Dooley/DC and looked what happen. It's a new trickification that only Miles knows how to use. It will start a new trend in college coaching. A real want so to speak.
