I was listening to Mike Leach on a college radio show today and he said something pretty bold about Auburn. He said they had no real offensive identity. He said the only thing your QB was good at was the broken play.

Is this true? I have not seen AU play a whole game. Does Newton run the offence or does he just get yards on broken plays that are designed to do something else? When Auburn plays the defenses with LB's and Safeties that can spy and contain Newton, will the AU offense suddenly fade away or is Leach full of shite and Newton is running the actual offense as it is designed.

god love Leach, but he's incorrect.

Newton has the ability to expand plays, but we put 500 yards up on South Carolina. Newton didn't run for all of those yards.

he runs the ball a lot more than they throw it and he makes big plays out of broken plays, but they have an offensive identity it is run Newton run. He is eeasily one of the best athletes on the field everytime he steps onto it.

I def do not agree with this. I'd say Malzahn's offense has a distinct identity.

This, however, hits a little closer to home...IMHO

Newton is quicker than your LB's and bigger than your safeties.

He said last week that we weren't even a top ten team. I guess we will see.

Last time I checked he was fricking unemployed.

So it's designed for him to run the ball more than the running back and be the leading rusher in the SEC? Makes sense.....

I don't think we have the identity yet either, so for that I agree with him.

I would almost agree with the part about not really having an identity. I would say that we've played 4 completely different games this year. This past weekend, I don't remember seeing a lot of crazy motion, next to no deep balls, only one wrap around draw (thank god), no real reverses. It looked like a totally different game plan then in previous weeks.

The thing about Newton right now, is he doesn't know the entire offense. The playbook is so complex, that Malzahn isn't comfortable with Newton with regard to a lot of the plays. They have been slowly opening up the playbook some as Newton learns how to read coverages and what not, but right now, what Malzahn feels most comfortable with is the read option plays/ normal run plays and the basic passing attack. We are definitely not running the entire offense yet, but against USCe, we started to show a few more things.

This was true against us. We'd get third down, think we had him stopped, and he'd just lean forward and get the first.

He changed his tune about Bama today. He said he didn't think the D could replace all those guys but the offense showed they were better and the D showed they could step up when needed. He also said he was very high on Arkansas and still thinks they are better than most people give them credit for being. Finally, He said Bama deserved #1.

This is my main concern for the Auburn game

No, that's just an added advantage.

I didn't see anyone have a problem with this when Tim Tebow was Florida's QB.
