i've heard alot on here about Bama winning it all angain this year but i just want to know what Bama fans think about special teams. losing Arenas has got to hurt.
i've asked my Bama friends and they tell me that richardson will handle it. i think they are discounting what javier arenas brought to the table. lastyear he was good for 15-25 yards everytime he recieved a punt. the dude was lightning in a bottle.

this is not a flame just asking

BTW WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arenas will be missed he was special. Last year they kicked the ball away from him so hopefully we'll be able to put a threat back there(punt returning).

True. But more times than not teams kicked away from him.

Arenas should be the NCAA record holder. He was under 10 yards shy of Wes Welker's return record.

He would have had it if it weren't for penalties and holding.

Of course, we will miss him. ANY team would.

I actually am far more worried about replacing him on that corner blitz. As others have mentioned, most teams kicked away from him, but, he stopped numerous drives, including on against Tennessee that probably would have won the game for the Vols had he not gotten the QB for a big loss.

Dude was deadly on the corner blitz.

They have a better backup waiting in the wings, just like with every other player they lost

Actually, I think most of those were blitz's when he was playing star in nickle. But yeah, he was deadly. Have to wait and see if Menzie can be that good.

Special teams will lose us a game this year. We lost every single key player in that phase of the game.

I expect to lose one like we lost Arky in Tiffin's first year...

Don't you know Bama's team was NEVER penalized last year? Surely you've heard about it, every other fricking fan knows we were NEVER called for holding. Saban had the refs in his pocket the whole season.

I have a tendency to agree with you on this. It takes more than just being a good RB to play that position. First you have to catch the ball and Javy hardly ever dropped a kick, then you have to be able to see the gap and get through it.

Very few people could replace Javy in my opinion. I think we will be ok at that position but I don't think they will equal what he did when he was back there.

^^This - IMO, special teams is a much bigger concern for me than defense/secondary.

He'll be missed maybe more than any other player gone from last year.Shula recruited him just as a return man,but dude's such a great athlete he made a great corner.I hate replacing punt returners.

We'll miss him for many, many reasons this year and his special teams play was indeed special and a thing of beauty. I really like the idea of Julio and Trent returning kicks but it would be foolish to expect them to come close to what Javy brought to the table as a return guy.
