yes but then is it fair to reward the guys only good enough to play D1 while you screw over the rest? Probably not but it happens. Life isn't fair. You guys are right. It was more an idea then what I actually think should happen.

not always. We can all list walk-ons who were starters and 5 stars who did nothing.
But then usually they get a scholarship. SO I guess that makes sense.

Your argument makes perfect sense if the athlete comes from a middle income home or higher, but many don't. It's the athletes that come from a family who cannot afford to give him/her even a monthly allowance that I worry about.
Maybe a solution would be to allow athletes to obtain a student loan for a couple of thousand a year that they could pay off when they get out of school just like the average student. Anyone know if this is allowed now?

FWIW I'm friends with a UF walk on and he works 2 part time jobs. The fact that he's a walk on and has to meet the same requirements as a scholarship player just shows these players have enough time to have some kind of part time job if they really want some cash on the side. I mean they get free books, housing, food, classes, tutors, trainers, scooters, clothes, and who knows what else. They're pampered enough.

The problem with this would be if he loses his academic qualifications or transfers. The kids are getting tens of thousands of free education for playing and earning a chance to make millions. They can flip burgers for 12 hrs a week if they want some spending money.

then you proceed the same way you would on a regular student loan. The loan would have to be payed back regardless.

If they are not on scholarship i believe they can have jobs during the season.
Also there are rules for players with special circumstances like their family doesnt have money that allows them to work during the season.
All athletes can work during the offseason so if they want spending money, they can work through the summer and save up some of it to spend throughout the year. There income is just closely documented.

The thing is, young adam is a teenager.
Adults who have been through college and had to take out loans and work and go to class and be social tend to see this differently.

Not bad at all considering he's getting $40K plus worth of scholarships a year for a 12 hr day. Plus Sundays off.

no, actually I'll be right there with y'all next semester. But I can admit I'm bias considering I want to play college but I'm not sure if I will have the money.

Keep in mind what else athletes get is free medical treatments regarless if their injuries come fomr the sport it self. If a regular student gets sick, they have to hope they are on parents insurance or they pay out of pocket. These players get free and quick surgeries and treatments at no cost to them.
Even scholarship players volunteered to sign a LOI to go to schol. That is a contract stating thaey they play, the school gets money, and they get a free education plus side benefits. IF they want to make money at school, dont sign a LOI.
