Got this email from a friend (SMU alumni) today:

I got some pretty good intel this morning. I went to a breakfast that June Jones was speaking at and he started discussing the conference realignments. He was pretty certain that there was going to be a pretty big shakeup this summer with Nebraska and Missouri most likely leaving for the Big 10.

He's going down to Austin this week to meet with Big 12 officials in order to position SMU for one of the vacant spots if NU and/or Mizzou leave. He mentioned TCU as probably the other likely school to fill a vacancy. He also said he wouldn't be surprised if Texas and Texas A&M left for the SEC. He said the BCS is pushing to make four power conferences (I assume SEC, Big Ten, Pac Ten and ACC).

Proposals will be made to schools over the next three weeks and he said we should know where everyone is going by July 1st.

What do yall think about having 4 power conferences?

Like the poster said above, 5, 6, 7, 8 years before playing someone within your own conference?

No thanks

Yeah didnt think about that, that would suck...although if the Big 10 does move to 14 or 16 teams everyone else will follow IMO

Jim Delaney apparently debunked any rumors that offers have been made...saying nothing has been done...it looks like this will more than likely be the case since Slive pretty much said the SEC would follow suit if the Big 10 made a big move, which it looks like they will...I also read where it would be 12-18 months before any realignment happend (as far as any teams moving to the Big 10 goes)...I see the football landscape as we know it completely changing within 5 years...It will suck but it is going to happen...IMO...

I do not see Texas going to the SEC I see the Pac-10 pushing hard for them, they fit in there.

OU will be on the market and OSU if the Big-12 screws this and goes after SMU and other Texas based schools. The Big-12 is already screwed itself very far south alienating the Northern portion of the Big-12. They'd be smart to look west, the Big-12, to find new schools if they want to keep the rest of the conference together.

If Nebraska and Mizzou both go to the Big 10, what other team joins that conference to make an even number?

Going to be real interesting to see how this plays out... not everyone can get the lion's share of teh money and not every one of the megaconferences would really make the kind of money the Big 10 and SEC do at present IMO

If there are some 16 team conferences that's going to be pretty odd... functionally that's pretty much two separate 8 team conferences with a postseason playoff game

My question is if/when all these conference expansions occur, will the conferences change their names so that they actually correlate with the number of teams in said conference? I know it sounds trivial but it kinda pisses me off....for some reason

Having 4 power conferences would never work anyways purely because of scheduling. Plus i doubt the BigXII/Big East officials/administrators would allow their conferences to just dissolve like that...

The other "rumored" schools were Rutgers and ND.

It will be interesting to see who the Pac-10 takes they are some very academic snobs when it comes to their schools.

most common thought is PAC takes Colorado and Utah

Those are the only two I see them taking. They require 80% approval to get a new school and they have a lot of academic pride that will prevent them from allowing many other programs in that don't have a good academic reputation.
