The Southeastern Conference may be working to help alleviate Alabama’s football schedule next season, but don’t expect Arkansas to make a change in dates.

The Tide is scheduled to play six teams coming off open dates next season, a high number that caught the attention of the SEC office this offseason. Shifting of games and dates on the Alabama schedule is expected, and Arkansas’ trip to South Carolina on Nov. 6 was mentioned by the Tuscaloosa News in a recent report as a possibility of being moved to Oct. 2.

Of course, the move was only mentioned as a possibility. Even so, I reached out to Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long about the report.

“I have been contacted by the SEC office and there are no plans for a change to our 2010 football schedule,” Long said.

The SEC is expected to announce changes to Alabama’s upcoming football schedule at the end of this month, according to the Tuscaloosa News. The change could affect several schools in the SEC.

Here are the possibilities lined out in the report:

“Only two conference games — Auburn-Georgia on Nov. 13 and Arkansas-South Carolina on Nov. 6 — could be moved to alleviate the problem without also moving other games. Auburn and Georgia share an idle date on Nov. 20, and moving that game into the Nov. 20 opening would eliminate the Tigers’ open date prior to its game against Alabama the following week. Similarly, Arkansas and South Carolina share an idle date on Oct. 2. Moving that game to Oct. 2 would put the Gamecocks in action rather than being idle before facing Alabama on Oct. 9."

The hope is that SEC teams will face no more than three or four “idle-rested” teams in the future, according to the report. The SEC is working on making that a reality in the future.

Good, Im glad Arky isn't budging because SC has had its idol week during a week or 2 prior to the end of the season and that was just simply stupid. Having it more in the middle just makes more sense 'Bama or no 'Bama.

It's kind of ridiculous that this is even a problem. You'd think the SEC would be able to make a schedule that isn't so biased. How hard is it to make sure every team doesn't set up a bye week before they play Bama?

they probably tried something like letting people out of a long sec stretch with bama in there and it ended up backfiring on them

This.

@ the fans who are acting all proud and shite because their team "won't budge" on the matter. Of course they won't! Why would they? Now if this was Auburn we were talking about here, maybe some teams wouldn't be as reluctant to move their bye weeks.

To try and get 'Bama fans to shut the frick up about it?

Maybe 'Bama strategically put their bye week before @LSU! You cheap bastards, its like you aren't certain if the refs will miss an INT call and are hoping to compensate with a well-rested team and 2 weeks of preparation instead of 1!
Damn you 'Bammers!!

But does that have anything to do with the talk about the schedule getting changed?

Yeah because those complaints are about wanting a schedule change and the SEC asking teams to do so.

i'm glad were not moving ours because we actually got a decent bye week this year instead of right after the opening game. i figured when they talked of us moving our game we were screwed because our administration tends to screw things like this up

Many would be singing a different tune if it was their team having to play so many teams coming off a bye week.

Many don't have 20 threads started a day talking about how every aspect of their team is perfection and can't be beat. But the 'Bama fans already have their excuses lined up should they lose a game or 2 next year.

I'm sure the SEC cares so much about the Bama fans complaints to change it.

Who do you think brought it to the attention to the SEC that this was happening? Nick Saban? I imagine it went something like the 'Bama Administration heard these complaints, went to the SEC, and all the SEC could do was ask, not force, the schools to shift their schedule.

Ok and the other side to that would be if Auburn was the team that had a bunch of bye weeks scheduled by other teams before they played them the 'Bama fans would be saying the same thing to them that the rest of the SEC is saying to 'Bama... shut the hell up and stop complaining. If your team is as great as your fan base says it is then it shouldnt matter.

Yeah I'm sure Mal Moore reads TD enough to do something about it.

Because TD is the only place 'Bama fans are and the only way they communicate.
