I was looking at a 1950's era Sports Illustrated, and in a blurb about college football it listed Alabama as winning the National Title in the 20's and 30's...
As much as you hate it, it wasn't us CREATING any titles...we just started acknowledging them.

this is the info i asked for several times--i.e. was there a jump in the number of titles claimed and if so when did that occur so that the number of titles claimed were retroactive ones.

The disconnect here is that the titles weren't "retroactively claimed" in the 1980's...just finally ACKNOWLEDGED. They were already in the books for decades...

LSU can claim 4 more titles, bringing their total to 7! If LSU starts acknowledging those and puts those Titles on the stadium, Got 7 T-shirts, Flags and etc would you be a lil pissed and argue that LSU only has 3?

i'll have to re-read the article. i thought it said, basically, one day bama was claimaing x no of titles and after some historical research the number was bumped up.

I wouldn't. Claim whatever you want. The fact is that Alabama has five other titles that we could claim and don't. I don't know why atcheson picked the 5 pre-bryant titles that he did, but there are others that are out there.

And Bama can claim more than we do too...at least four more than the 12 we do now.
