Don't read too much into the outcome of recent Texas games - they can be explosive at times, they can win games a lot of different ways and they have big game experience. They will not be intimidated.

That Texas A&M offense was actually pretty damn good. The Nebraska and Oklahoma defenses were pretty damn salty too. This might be one of the better years for defense in the Big 12.

The key for Texas will be running the ball, not necessarily dominating but doing just enough to prevent Bama from totally selling out on McCoy.

Its funny how the script has flipped. A week ago, Bama's less than stellar showing against Auburn had everyone predicted the coming dismantling of the Alabama program at the hands of Florida.

This week, Texas' close call against Nebraska has the Longhorns as sure losers against the all-mighty Crimson Tide...

This is what Saban was talking about last night...

Yep. And he's right, cause the media is going to be predicting Bama winning big. He's got to make sure they don't start sucking their own dicks too early.

FWIW, I think Bama rolls. But UT is most certainly capable of winning if they play well and Bama has a couple of turnovers. The weird thing about these games is there is a month off beforehand. That's a lot of time to get out of a groove. And McElroy was in a groove, so I'm curious to see if that affects him at all.

Nobody runs the ball on Alabama. Only one team broke 100. We'll be fine.

If texas doesn't have a way better O-line than I think they have, McCoy may get knocked out of the game. Unlike Tebow, he'll get sacked, hard, more than once.

several things...

The ESPN interview with Saban was spot on. Texas will get to hear how much they are underdogs now for a month...that means alot.

Texas got to hear USC being compared to the greatest teams in history in 05'...before they beat them in Pasadena to win the title.

Florida got to hear this bs in 06' before they throttled Ohio State.

LSU AND K-State heard this in 2003 when OU was rolling along...

Ohio State heard how much Miami was gonna kill em' by...good thing they still showed up at the stadium. Now they have a crystal football.

Oklahoma was a huge dog to Florida State in 2000, and got it done with then second year coach Bob Stoops.

Even in 1998, everyone pegged Florida State as the favorite then, and still...Tennessee finishes off the undefeated season.

1996? FSU just got done beating Florida in the last game of the regular season, then meets up with the same Gators in the Sugar Bowl for a de facto title game (thanks to some upsets). And the Gators rolled.

In a nutshell...it's a clean slate out in Cali.

Also, whenever Texas has a low scoring shitfest...it's called a bad game with no offense. Whenever a team like Florida slides by LSU 13-3, it's called a classic SEC defensive struggle.

When Texas and A&M light up the scoreboards, it's called a game with shitty Big 12 defense.

When Florida and Georgia take to the skies and score in bunches, it's simply a game where the offensive stars shine...

what gives?

Lastly. Unlike OU, Texas has a flair for the dramatic and gets it done in big time bowl games.

2008: Texas 24, Ohio State 21 - The Horns score with seconds left after the Bucks rallied to take the lead in the 4th.
2005: Texas 41, USC 38 - Unless you lived under a rock, you know the story.
2004: Texas 38, Michigan 37 - the Horns had a game-winning field goal as time expired in a seesaw battle for the Roses.

They are 3-0 in bowl games, and Mack has a solid track record in the postseason AND big games as of late. The Tide just got done winning their first, true big game this season after beating Florida. Also...I could go into Bama's recent bowl history, but I will spare that from the argument.

Let's see...senior leadership? Experienced qb? Team out to prove they shoulda been in it last season?

Give me a break...this is gonna be a great game.

I don't, but I have to admit, after watching Bama and UT play numerous times this year, Bama is in a class of their own. Saban don't lay eggs in the BIG games.

I agree, it will be a great game. Both teams are good, both have strengths and weaknesses. I'm just proud that Bama is 13-0 and is going to the Rose Bowl.

The wildcard will be the play of McElroy. If he tries to force his throws or misreads coverage, the TX D will eat_him_alive. Then, it won't be an egg, but rather an omelet. The whorah talk is based on a break out game for McElroy and a subpar TX performance. Let's see if he can do it again....then we'll know who wears the crown.

I agree with you on all points. I thought McElroy was going to be the weak link in their getting to the NCG. Didn't know if he could handle the pressure of a game of that magnitude.

He stepped up in the SECCG against one of the best D's in the game, on a huge national stage. I don't see him following with a choke.

I also think TX defense is way overrated. Just IMO.

Didn't say he would choke, but one game doesn't establish a trend. If you look at his body of work this year, he has struggled with coverages and when he does, he forces the ball.

The next "stage" will be much larger and regardless of AL's strength, TX will come to play and have a few tricks up their sleeve. All the Bama boasting will work in TX's favor; including believing the are overrated.

Agreed.

True, but you have to admit that he progressed, as opposed to regressed as the year went on.

Having an SECCG game under your belt will help him, but does not guarantee anthing.

I think the UT D is overrated, but not the team.

I think it will be a better match up than people are expecting.

FWIW, I called for him to have a breakout game for several weeks.....and the result would be UGLY on the other team.

If he throws a few picks and the TX D and O get clicking, we'll find out how superior Bama is or is not.

I think his body of work shows that he came out firing against some of the mediocre teams, but when he started playing top notch defenses, his play certainly faultered, but by the time the LSU game came around, he started to get better. Since then he has gradually gotten better and better. It looks to me like he has learned an incredible amount from playing those bad games. shite, he just lit up the best secondary I've seen in sometime.
