I think they were kinda putting the line up high enough to get bets on LSU to start out with?

If I could get it at 10 I'd take LSU for sure. Even at 8.5 I might lay some money on the Tigers, but not as much. I am feeling a close game - something in the 28-21 or 28-24 range.

I never bet on LSU, but thats a lot of points in what I think will be a low scoring game

This seems to be one of those games Vegas is looking to make a lot of money on. They know that everybody is going to be jumping on LSU, just like they did against Florida, but every week there are a couple of games where Vegas seems to know something we don't and they take everybody's money.

I dont know anything about how this works but if they had put LSU at -3 or +3 against Bama which is where I think it should be no one would have bet on this game or am I wrong?

You're right. There would likely be far less traffic on the game if Alabama were at -3 instead of -8.5 or -10. What I'm saying though is that they know that if they set the line at -8.5 everybody will be betting on LSU. They wouldn't set the line where the betting would be so one-sided if they didn't think it was an opportunity for a big payday.

well, assuming people think bama is the better team and they are playing at home I couldn't see favoring bama by less than 6 points minimum if you were trying to figure out where to set a line

Thats not how Vegas or any book works. They could care less the winner, just enough points +/_to make 50% bet one way and 50% the other.
