Me and my friend are going to the Bama/Ole Miss game next week. This is my first game in Oxford, so I don't know anything about the area or what I should do while I'm there. We're leaving LA on Friday and have to stay in Batesville since there weren't any rooms in Oxford. Couple of questions:
1.) Best places to eat?
2.) Must see stuff? (Ex: Bryant Museum @ Bama, Mike the Tiger @ LSU, etc.)
3.) Parking situation? (I've heard there aren't too many spots around the stadium, so a long walk is probably going to happen.)
4.) Best places to go out to on a Friday? We're both in our 20's, to give you an idea of what kind of places to recommend. I don't want to end up at some hole in the wall bar with a bunch of old arse people getting wasted.

I'm looking forward to going, especially seeing The Grove for the first time too. I've been trying to go over there for the last 4 years, but this is the first year my work/school schedule has given me a break and allowed me to go.

1.) Best places to eat? Depends on what you're looking to spend. Ajax or Proud Larry's if on a budget. City Grocery, 208, Downtown Grill if you have deep pockets.
2.) Must see stuff? (Ex: Bryant Museum @ Bama, Mike the Tiger @ LSU, etc.)Bitches
3.) Parking situation? (I've heard there aren't too many spots around the stadium, so a long walk is probably going to happen.)It's a bitch. Definitely long walks. IIRC, there are shuttle buses to parking areas off campus. Can't remember where though.

Willaim Faulkner's house is pretty close to campus. It's nothing special but it's cool

I thought about recommending this. Just depends on if you are a bit of a history buff. There also is a civil war cemetary/memorial right next to Tad Smith Coliseum.

How early? Like I said, we're driving in from Baton Rouge on Friday and unfortunately, have to stay in Batesville. This may complicate my ability to drink some b/c I don't want either of us to have to go to Oxford, dirnk, then have to drive back to Batesville. I was thinking of a taxi, but I f'ing hate taxis and don't even know if I could get one to take me from Batesville to Oxford.

But the square is probably where we'll end up Friday night regardless of the transportation issues...bitches being the main reason why of course. Maybe I can get lucky and find a hosptiable bitch who will give me a room for the night.

1) Best Restaurants will be hard to come by at the Bama game. If you want to ensure you'll be at a good one, make reservations now, because there is no way you will eat almost at any of the good places if you don't have any. There's no way at this point you will get any 208 or City Grocery reservations, although you may be able to pull of Lenora's or Waltz, since both aren't as well known (and Lenora's is brand new and incredible). All of these are really expensive. Ajax is cheap and good, but I'd also recommend reservations since that is probably the most well known restaurant to out of town people, although reservations probably aren't maxed out like at City Grocery or 208. Blind Pig is a good sandwich place, Rooster's.... is a decent back-up place (has great wings), Rib Cage is over rated but not terrible, Downtown Grill is alright but even more over rated than Rib Cage, and Two Stick has good Japanese. I haven't been here, but I've heard good things about the Snack Bar, which is about a 1/3 of a mile from the Square on North Lamar, and there is a good hibachi place down on Jackson.

2) While Ole Miss has good scenery, the must sees are obvious: The Square the night before gameday, and the Grove on Gameday.

3) Pretty terrible. Parking on Campus is difficult. Parking behind Kinard Hall is probably possible, but it is hard as frick to park on campus. Just get as close to Campus as you can.

4) Just stay away from the Levee unless you are looking for Freshmen. Its hard to go wrong on the Square.

Rock Star Taxi is the shiznit. Todd Wade(former OM and Miami Dolphins OLman) started it with a buddy of his. They have a flamed out Limo, A-Team van, 60's Cadillac "boat" with horns on the front, and a bunch of pimp arse other shite.

Thanks for the food recommendations. I might try Lenoria's (another friend of mine mentioned that last week) or Ajax. It depends on what my friend feels like spending; personally, price is not an issue if the food is awesome.

I may try to find something by Kinard, but I'm sure I'll get a shitty spot since I normally do anyway. I've made some long frickin hikes before @ LSU so it shouldn't be too bad.

I'm not really looking for freshmen, but I don't hold that against them either if they are. I don't have much scenary here @ Southeastern and I see LSU bitches everywhere, so it'll be nice to branch out some and see what else is out there. Who normally serves the best drinks around there?

Thanks for the advice.

208. But make a reservation. If not there than Lenora's, The Waltz, or Ajax(southern soul food).

The Library (its huge and will be crowded, but fun as hell). Smaller bars are City Grocery, Blind Pig, The Burgundy Room, Proud Larrys(also has good food), and Rooster Blues Bar(which is usually a lot of fun).

The best bars are Burgandy Room and Roosters, however both will be absolutely packed on the Friday before the game. A taxi back to Batesville would probably be like 100 bucks, so I wouldn't do that. Taxi prices in Oxford are outrageous.

City Grocery, The Waltz, 208. Small bars, but the bartenders can make a damn fine drink.

A new Varsity Grille has just opened about a block south of 208 on Lamar, where Pearl Street Pasta used to be. Sort of an upscale sportsbar/rest place. Can't vouch for the food 'cause I haven't tried it yet, but the bar is nice.

The Snack Bar serves a great selection of oysters flown in fresh from all over, and has some other nice dishes too. It is next door to Big Bad Breakfast, which is a great place for a big breakfast or brunch.

YES. Big Bad and Snack Bar are delicious and reasonably priced. So fricking good actually.

It's ok. They have good deals because it is new. I know a bunch of the waitresses and they say the food is just "OK". I had the fried alligator and it was decent. It is a good place to get a drink though.
