I'll be staying there for a few weeks, and I've heard different things from a lot of people.

It's small town central florida. There are bars, restaurants, a shitty mall, hunting nearby, fishing nearby, etc.

It's not good, it's not bad. It is what you make of it.

I worked down there but never went to a game there. I was actually in Gainesville when UF beat OSU in the NC game. Was working at the UF/Shands/UF Med Center and everyone had their Gator thingys on their face. I was there only for some technology consulting work so I didn't get to do the town but liked what I saw. BTW - Floridians - be proud of your healthcare that goes on there at Shands. Impressive stuff!

I like Gainsville a lot. A good mix of college atmosphere with bars and good restaurants and then the suburb "civilization" feel, if you will. Reminds me of Baton Rouge in that regard.

Went to school there. Loved it! I think it gets a bad rap due to how strict the cops are on game day, which they are.

It is what you make it. If you go out with an open mind and try to find the good in Gville you will love it. If you go with a predetermination that it sucks and not go out then....well it will probably suck.

I think some people go into situations with a very critical mind set looking for any flaw they can find pretty much just because they aren't a fan of the school. In all actuality, all SEC campuses and towns I have been to are ok.

If you wear Jorts and have a lot of orange and blue garb...you will fit in.

I don't think the Purple Porpus is still open...only place worth a shite going too.

Campus is nice.
