I was thinking about this after seeing the Cutcliffe vs. Nutt thread...and it came to me. The real reason that most Arky fans on here are obsessed with Nutt is because they at one time they loved him. Probably would have run through a brick wall for him.

Hear me out...

Why aren't Ole Miss fans on Duke message boards telling them how shitty Cutcliffe's gonna be, and how he has the personality of Lurch, and how he's way too conservative, and how he doesn't recruit worth a damn, etc...? Because we never fell under the spell of Cutcliffe. He was a cold fish. Never seemed to have the players motivated. Press conferences would put you to sleep. Wouldn't get off his arse and recruit anyone. Ole Miss fans were much more upset over Tuberville leaving than Cutcliffe and Tuberville wasn't as successful here as Cutcliffe (although probation had a hand in that). I was glad to see Cutcliffe go (although his dry personality and lack of recruiting led directly to them hiring Orgeron who was his complete opposite), and could have cared less where he went.

Nutt, on the other hand, I think was revered at one time by the Pig Faithful. He brought the program back into prominence. He's charismatic. He motivates the players. Sure, he has his many faults. Too many at Arkansas, with the Mustain/Malzahn saga, textgate, up one year...losing the next. But if you didn't revere the man at one time, you wouldn't take the time to blast him every chance you got. It's very comparable to LSU and Saban. LSU fans revered the man (living here that's all you heard about while he was here...Saban,Saban,Saban).

So, where am I going with all of this? Just because you caught your girlfriend texting someone else (literally) and she's now with someone else...quit hating. It's not good for you. In fact, you should try to win her back. Become Ole Miss fans. Avoid the rush. Come back to the Hootie you know and hate to admit you love. WRT has seen the light. You can too. You know that supermodel that you think you're with now is going to dump you the first chance she gets. Come on back to Hootie. He still loves you. Don't you want a hug?

I never really cared for Saban while he was at LSU. My dad was is an Auburn alum and they are my second favorite team. I always liked Tubberville more than Saban.

I do agree that Saban is an elite coach; however, he is still very overrated.

Houston Nutt is just average and not worth getting excited over either way.

#1 - Duke? Who cares?
#2 - If he went to another SEC W school as a head coach...and said team was excited about how great they were going to be...and they posted on the same forum...are you trying to say that OM fans wouldn't be criticizing Cutliffe to those rival fans?

Don't count me in that group and anybody who knows me will tell you the same. Did I support him for the first few years? Of course I did. But I never bought into his rah, rah crap because it's shallow, and can't be maintained. In addition, I grew weary of his embarrassing antics and comments real quick and a lot of the Rebel faithful will do the same.

Just wait until the Rebels start losing games you shouldn’t and you continue to hear comments like “we’re winners and fighters”, “I called that play bruther”, “we were just a play or two away”, “_______(insert player’s name here) just can’t fumble the ball or throw an interception or miss that tackle, “we play with one heartbeat”, “ I love the Ole Miss helmet”, or more embarrassing, flashing his SEC Western “Championship” Ring in a room with several coaches who have won an actual SEC Championship and a National Championship or two while telling them how difficult it is to get one.

Or, how about flashing upside down “Hook-em-Horns” signs taunting Texas Fans after a win. Real class there don’t you think? My favorite, when Nutt almost knocked the band director down in one of his wild-eyed tirades to get on Band Director’s ladder to lead the students in the fight song. Just name me one other head coach at any level who would do something as stupid and embarrassing as that.

Nutt is a lot like Jim Baker or Jimmy Swaggart. He isn’t what he portrays himself to be and the more he revels himself the less you like him. Old Miss fans will realize that soon enough.

WRT is a tool. You lose any credibility you might have otherwise had when you mention him(or her.)

Having said that, I think that there is a bit of truth to what you have written . Many people had their doubts about Nutt from time to time, but the 2003 season is the point where I really started to wonder. We had a great start, then layed a huge egg in October.

Then, we get the 06 season, where we were oh-so-close to getting a BCS bid or winning the SEC outright. We had the potential to win BIG in 2007, yet Nutt's personal failings seemed to take center stage as he runs off Mustain, D Wiliams, and Malzahn. You add those parts to the great run game that Nutt CAN put together, and we potentially finally vault into the upper echelon of the SEC.

We were close, and he trashed our dreams. That , IMO, is why there is such passion and anger. He could have owned the hearts of his home state forever if his ego could have gotten out of the way.

Lets not forget the famous funeral request.

"We talked to his family to see if we could get the funeral moved" .....are you fricking kidding me.

Or the 5 years in a row obligatory

"We are going to open up the playbook this year"
including the famous "gonna turn Gus loose"

or the stellar QB development

"They just need to busdrivers"
"He was the better handeroffer"

or the utter embarrassment of using 4 fricking QBs in the first half of an opening game and not one of them was Matt Jones, he was on the bench.

Arkansas fans hate Nutt because he is a narcissistic, egotistical, lying, politician masquerading as a goddamn buffoon of a head coach.

From sources he rode around in Fayette ville in his Tahoe thinking he was a National Championship caliber coach. His head and ego started to swell over being the head coach of the University of Arkansas and not Murray State. He is not as good of a coach as he his in his own mind. Media loves him because he is their best friend knows how to use them to his advantage and it shows when he has a mic in front of him--- the buffoon makes all kinda dumb arse comments.... just an embarrassment overall.

believe it...it was a great 98 run then 99 hit...I met Nutt personally, waited on Nutt as a server and pretty much decided he was a douche and not the coach that would lead us to great things...

2004/2005...those years hurt me

Nope.

The reason we, or I hate Hootie is because he's a lying sack of shite who fricked over our program, and has never been held accountable for his actions.

I didn't "like" Nutt since he balled like a baby after beating Tennessee in 1999.

I didn't "hate" Nutt until the events of the 2006 season unfolded.

The only reason you have to get creative with your "theories" why Arkansas fans hate Nutt is because you won't hear the truth about your current head coach's actions at his former school.

Its really pretty simple.

They want to act like they got a great deal with Hootie but in actuality they got sold a bad sac of goods --- which should become evident to them after this season.

No, I don't give a shite about his actions at his former school. Ole Miss is his second chance. So long as he doesn't do some of the things he did at Arkansas while in Oxford, I won't ever listen to that shite because it DOES NOT MATTER ONE GOD DAMNED BIT.

If they're things that you don't want him to do at your school, then they are obviously things that matter.

Interesting viewpoint.

Although I am glad you finally admitted that your coach was a complete douche at his old school and you can see why he is so hated.
