This is going on a post in another thread comparing ARK to LSU and LSU not being considered elite status prior to 2003.

With that point trying to be made, my question is how accurate is the college football data warehouse? IS this site worth using as a measuring stick?

IMO, cfbdatawarehouse is a great source of data and analysis. Their team rankings consider only results on the field, as opposed to ESPN's that put too much weight on subjective things such as Heismans and All-Americans, etc...

So use it!

Actually it is, because it gauges the successes within the conference, the bowls, and awards points equally for everyone.

LSU has always been close to a top ten all time program, but we were actually 12th a few years ago. Since then LSU has leapfrogged Tennessee and UGA, and are likely to catch Nebraska in the next couple years.

Basically saying we're currently the second best
all time in the SEC behind Bama, and well ahead of them as we end this decade.

We're behind Alabama and Tenn, and I think LSU, Georgia, and Florida are all bunched together in that order in the 11-13 range.

They've only been 1-A for a decade or so and only became 1-AA in the 70's

I am skeptical of this scoring system. from 2000 - 2008 it shows 10 National Championships.

I don't know about you but I do not recognize USC as the NC in 2003. I think most everyone here agrees with me.

In otherwords, this system still has subjective elements in it.

If you delve further, you'll see it lists USC under the AP awarding of it. It's still one of the best sites. It lists and gives all wins and rankings and doesn't base it on anything but that. It's not subjective, it just gives all the info.

It is a good site for stats. But stats isn't everything. There is alot more to football. Football was king in Louisiana when I moved to Baton Rouge in the mid-90s. LSU wanted to be champions, were they? No, look at the quarter century rankings 1974-1999. 61st in win pct. 23rd in overall points, 27th in Big 4 Bowl. Elite? No. Of course, you guys pursued and eventually found a coach that could keep talent in-state and do something with them in Nick Saban. And boom... championships.

The original thread was about coaches and someone posted that Arkansas is ok with mediocre coaches because we are not used to winning.

Arkansas has had and has produced great football coaches: Bear Bryant, Lou Holtz, Frank Broyles, Jimmy Johnson, Ken Hatfield, Tommy Tubberville, and Barry Switzer. Hey, we also had Jerry Jones as well.

Ole Miss fans are going to pipe up and say Houston Nutt. And look how Gus Malzahn is doing.

1958-1976 Frank Broyles 71% win pct
1977-1983 Lou Holtz 74% win pct
1984-1989 Ken Hatfield 76% win pct

Arkansas has a tradition of producing great football coaches. The Razorbacks expect to win, and we want to build on our tradition. I believe Bobby is picking up where we left off in 1989.

You are taking one section of history and using it as a basis for the entire span of college football. Not going to work. This is all time rankings, from no helmets up to now and It has LSU in the top 10. With a little more effort Arkansas might have cracked the top 25. You fail to mention the 60's and 70's when it was joked that LSU was the annual SWC champions for beating the actual SWC champions. Granted I am biased, but I think it is fair to say that overall, LSU has more claim to a higher status in college football than Arkansas.

So - since Bear Bryant is from the state of Arkansas, his legendary status also allows the Universtiy of Arkansas to take credit? This makes no sense.

Eddie Robinson is a legendary coach but I see nowhere that LSU gains any noteriety from this.

Exactly! Coach Bryant was from Arkansas but he played and finished his coaching career at Alabama.

The same goes for all of those other coaches mentioned from Arkansas. If they didn't have success while coaching the Razorbacks, I don't see how any of their fans can claim them IMO.

You could also argue that Arkansas really just held the best football coaches back. Once they (Bryant, Johnson, Tuberville, Switzer) got the hell out of Arkansas, their careers really took off. so maybe they should actually be ranked lower because they tend to hinder the progress of bright young football minds.
