Taking combined records of all teams the totals show the SEC is having an average year

1) 2007 97-59 62.2%
2) 2006 96-59 61.9%
3) 2008 86-60 58.9% currently
4) 2002 89-65 57.8%
5) 2005 79-59 57.2%
6) 2004 77-63 55.0%
7) 2003 76-68 52.8%

All combined records of conference play yields a 49-49 record. Out of conference opponents change the % to above or below 50%

So far this year the SEC is 37-11 OOC or 77.1%

There are 7 bowl eligible teams this year and if they lose every bowl game then the combined record will change to 37-18 67.3% and change the overall average to 86-67 56.2%

if the SEC goes 0-7 bowl game it will finish at 56.2% or 5th in the last 7 years
IF it goes 1-6 in bowl games it will finish at 56.9% or 5th in the last 7 years

IF it goes 2-5 in bowl games it will finish at 57.5% or 4th in the last 7 years
IF it goes 3-4 in bowl games it will finish at 58.2% or 4th in the last 7 years

IF it goes 4-3 in bowl games it will finish at 58.8% or 3rd in the last 7 years.
IF it goes 7-0 in bowl games it would finish at 60.8% or still 3rd in the last 7 years

Let's see 3 new coaches, 3 fired coaches & LSU, Ga down big time.

I'm gonna say, YES

I would imagine that our strength of schedule is down this year. The reason everybody thinks we are down is because we have a bunch of 6-6 and 5-7 teams. Nobody is taking a 10 loss season. SEC is really good at the top and bottom, but the teams inbetween are just not that great.

Still don't understand how you think Georgia is down big time. Sure they had high expectations going into this season, but losing three games is not a bad season at all. They had tons of injuries also.

If every SEC team was as good as Florida and had complete parity then it would yield an 8-4 record for every team.

yep, which makes the conference worse than it has been recently IMO.

Only out of conference play can show whether or not the Season is really down.

Current OOC play is 37-11

i don't know why you're trying to argue this. the fricking ACC took the SEC to the woodshed last weekend. then you've got LSU, AU, TENN, and Arky all considerably worse than they've been in a long time. the bottom feeders not being as bad this year doesn't offset that. the SEC is clearly down this year relative to years past IMO. i'd imagine the bowl season will further prove this point

No, the Big XII is just up. It's a pretty average year for the SEC.

Every 2 or 3 years, another conference will be better than the SEC, but since 1933, the SEC has pretty consistently been the best from top to bottom. You could make a case for the Big Ten being better during the 40's, or the old Big 8 or SWC being better for awhile during the 70's, but by and large, the SEC has been out in front. Since the 30's, there's never been a decade where any conference has had more teams end their seasons ranked than the SEC.

The numbers are already posted up there in the original post.

If every team loses their bowl game then it will put the year at 5th out of the last 7

Still much stronger than 2003 when LSU won the NC and Stronger than 2004 when Auburn went undefeated.

Perception does not= reality

2008 SEC had more dominant teams than 07.

I mean, freaking Tennessee made it to the SECCG last year.
