Will have a redshirt put on him and if Swag gets hurt, they will burn it.

The way I see it with Shea is, he will probably leave after 3, and even if he doesn't, if he plays during garbage time, he is getting real practice throwing to the backup receivers, who will be his main receivers the next year

If we redshirt Shea he won't leave after 3 years (redshirt sophmore) unless he just won the Heisman

The way I see it, he'd be the 4th option at best. Probably 5th or 6th. I hope like hell that we won't have to rely on Pennamon at any point this year.

At worst, Pennamon is our 2nd best RB behind Akeem Judd.

I think Pennamon is our best RB. Much better than Wilkins. Jury's still out on Swinney.

Pennamon is already at 215. If he can pick up the blocking aspect of the position, he'll definitely play. He's about the same size has Juddkins but with better speed. Just depends how he progresses, though he seems like a kid that will be a quick learner (especially coming from a big time Tx HS program; those kids are much more college ready than others). Regardless, he's likely the man next year, so you'd want to at least get him some game reps this year

Nixon is a definite RS, and Metcalf should RS unless he wants to waste the year catching 4-5 passes (a la Lodge this year).

Matthews is a redshirt. Needs a year a in the weight room. I could see someone like Defoor get some reps though. He looks more the part than any of the other OL signees, outside of Little of course.

Hartsfield gets in the CB rotation. Already has the size, and being an EE is huge for him.

I just watched Anderson's senior year highlight tape and damn. He will either start at Free or light a much needed fire under CJ. Either way he will get some solid PT.

Deontay will probably start at a safety spot. Similar to Jamal Adams at LSU

I feel like Freeze wants to RS all freshman WR's at this point. The only reason Lodge didn't take a shirt last year is because he and his family refused to take it. I feel like Freeze sent him and whatever other stud WR recruits who might've been paying attention a message with the 1/12/1 line he turned in last season though. Regardless of how touted he was coming out of HS, Lodge was essentially a non-factor for us last year. I can see AJ being in the same position as Lodge was, albeit with an easier path to playing time because MegaQuon is gone. All 3 WR's probably should shirt, but AJ probably won't.

Hasn't played a down of CFB, already better then Judd and Wilkins.

I see what you are trying to say, at least I think I do; Pennamon has more visible skill and upside than Judd and Wilkins, but he isn't proven in college yet, so hold your horses.

Judd will hopefully be our feature back, with Wilkins coming in to give him a breather.

In Freeze's press conference yesterday the only position change he mentioned was J. Connor to CB, and was the only player he claimed as a corner. Mentioned every other secondary player as a DB and I believe Jones and Hartsfield are being looked at for the Safety positions to begin but we won't know until fall. Think Deontay is in the rotation next year behind CJ.

I don't think Mathis moves to LB, in his film he doesn't get off the line well and I don't believe he has the instincts for the position, not to mention his height could make him a strong red zone threat. Freeze also mentioned Street with the RBs.

I think Angel moves to LB before Mathis, or they all 3 stay at TE considering Freeze said he doesn't expect to take any TE's next year. I'm also not crazy about taking a kid who played TE in the UA AA game and trying to mold him into an LB. Just seems like square peg-round hole sorta stuff to me, plus Angel has more experience playing D supposedly. We'll see haha.

Yup he's not redshirting at all, and doesn't want to. He's the backup QB.

If Swagg get injured, Shea is the QB.

In fairness, Judd and Wilkins aren't exactly proven commodities over the course of an entire season. Neither has been given the opportunity to be a featured back or started a game as far as I know.

Not sure how either fit into the passing game either, which is Swagg's security blanket, a big part of our offense, and a job where Walton excelled. DVaughan may be good in the JWalt role.

I'll admit I'm not as sold on the late season surge of Judd and Wilkins - could be some fools gold there.

I actually like the Angel transition. Some RB experience in HS, listed on the roster already at 6'3" 218 lbs. Looks more athletic than Mathis in film, but still a toss up on how he may transition.

Is Penn a receiving RB? Can he catch them out of the backfield? Who is our best receiving RB at this point?

I'm not sure why we would potentially throw away a season of Shea Patterson based on two big ifs.

IF Swagg gets hurt (We should stop speaking these words)

IF Shea leaves early

Only a handful of QBs declare early every year (4 this year), seems to risky throw away a redshirt cause he might be going pro early.

Now if he doesn't want or refuses to redshirt then that is a different story.

Manvel High throws the ball a lot and he's a smooth receiver out of the backfield. He's not JWalt shifty but he can definitely catch.

Wilkins can catch pretty well and can be good on screens - never seen Judd catch a pass that I remember.

Not sure on Swinney.

How is it wasting a season? If he plays next season, rarely, he would still have 3 more years to play after next season.

Because he could potentially have 4 seasons as the starter instead of 3.

If you absolutely know he's only staying 3 years then, yeah, don't redshirt him. Otherwise, I'm not sure why you'd willingly give up that year when there is presently no need for him.
