No truer words have been spoken, Ive known so many people the past three years who were stupid enough to drive under the influence and get them

I don't understand why UBER isnt everywhere.
I guess local police departments feel that if its shut down more people will choose to drive drunk thus giving them the chance to give more DUI's
I have used UBER in Nashville and Atlanta and absolutely love it and would love to use it here in Mississippi. They tried to start it on the MS Gulf Coast last summer in Biloxi and Gulfport but the cab drivers and Harrison County politics got involved and shut it down.

I like the service but the UberX drivers are definitely getting worse because it's impossible to actually make any money driving for UberX.

This is gonna sound a bit dramatic but this service could save lives by providing a cheap alternative to driving drunk. It's such a simple concept that it sounds stupid to even have to convince lawmakers of the benefits of this service.
AGREE 100%
However lawmakers don't see things like people like us with common sense. They are more worried about trivial things such as how UBER will hurt local cab companies which are pretty much non existent other than on the weekends and Thursday nights, and how local law enforcement will be hurt financially by not being able to give out as many DUI's

Giving out DUI's is viagra for Oxford PD. They won't give up that shite.
Its not just Oxford, its Starkville, Hattiesburg, and any other small college city that doesn't offer UBER.

Uber law passed in Mississippi today. State law trumps all local law, effective 7/1/16.

Fantastic news! Never thought Oxford would allow it due to the income from the DUIs. Now it doesn't matter!

I'm so jealous. I still work in Auburn and the city shot it down 3-2. It makes life miserable when you don't live near student housing and need to make it home
ETA: I never drive even with 1 drink. Makes it 10x harder
