Yep. What seriously killed us last year was short runs on first down.

First down runs in the LSU games
LSU
First quarter:
2-yard run by Walton (first play of possession)
30-yard run by Cody Core (first play of possession)
1-yard run by Mathers
No gain by Walton (first play of possession)
Second quarter:
13-yard run by Itavius Mathers (first play of possession)
7-yard run by Mathers (first play of possession)
3-yard run by Mathers
Third quarter:
No gain by Wallace (we were on the LSU 2)
2-yard run by Wallace
No gain by Walton
-2-yard run by Mathers (first play of possession)
No gain by Walton (first play of possession)
Fourth quarter:
-1-yard run by Walton (first play of possession)
2-yard run by Walton (first play of possession)
2-yard run by Wallace (first play of possession)

So I went back and looked at the rushing yards of the 2
QB's in 2012 and 2013.

We ran for 667 and 665 respectively in 2012 and 2013.

In 2014, we only ran for 304, this from a read option team.

Number of attempts were down, and I believe this makes the run game less effective when the QB is eliminated as a threat.

The way I see it, if the QB's are so close in ability then play all three and get back to what makes the read option effective. Besides, Shea will be here next year to throw the ball all over the place anyway.

A) We were trying to slow the game down to keep the Landshark Defense rested. I expect nothing less this fall and wish we'd abandon the stupid read option altogether and adopt a more traditional offense.

B) You can't seriously think that a true freshman will come in and start at QB in the SEC, can you? May as well pack it in, if so. I cannot remember a true freshman QB ever having a good season in the SEC, outside of Mitch Mustain handing off to a three-headed RB monster in Fayetteville in 2006.

Especially not with the opening game he would have to play which would be FSU

He said true freshman, Eli was a redshirt freshman and it was a bowl game.

The coach brought an offensive scheme that works, if he runs the offense as it is designed.

It is predicated on the read option to move the defense. You either have to run the QB or use more than one ball carrier to create the misdirection to move the defenders.

Last season with Bo not running as often and not using Kincaide as much as Brunetti had been used, the offense lacked the necessary elements to be successful.

The inability of Bo to stretch the defenses by going over the top, also kept defenses too close to the line of scrimmage. In order to run the ball the defense has to defend downfield, not just the 10 yards from the line of scrimmage.

It does no good to have longer and athletic receivers you don't give them a chance to make plays down field.

I thought the problem was the offensive line.

Plus, Hugh Freeze's playcalling, especially in the redzone, hasn't been splendid since the one season we had a serviceable offensive line in his tenure as head coach.

2014 - 14th in redzone scoring
2013 - 13th in redzone scoring
2012 - 1st in redzone scoring

I agree entirely. Maybe Freeze was worried about Bo's surgically repaired shoulder. No excuse not to run the qb this year. Wallace is showing a 5.09 forty time on his draft info. All of Buchanan's 40 times were in the 4.8 range. I would have guessed Wallace was faster. In any event, we have three guys who can run, w/ the best passer probably being the slowest and the best running definitely being the worst passer.

Bo is more of a 4.8 guy when healthy. The slow time was due to a bum ankle. I think when, healthy, Bo may be a tad more athletic the Buchanan.

pro-day was March 5. Certainly, ankle problems resolved by then.

He showed no signs of discomfort throwing the ball. Wallace turned in a 5.1 40-yard dash time and did the standing broad jump in 8'8", according to NFL senior media analyst Gil Brandt.
