I totally forgot about McDowell... I feel like Breeland will be the one making a name for himself this year though out of that list

C.J. Johnson, a fifth-year defensive end with 24 career tackles for loss, will get a look at middle linebacker this spring. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Johnson played the position in high school.

Prime example of why our coaching staff pisses me off. Why move him now? In his last year of eligiblity.

Same goes with Liggins... if "his future position in the NFL is at OT" why would you waste a year of him last year at TE?

Agreed, especially considering the extreme lack of depth we had on the offensive line.

Stupid move, in my opinion.

Liggins was an above-average, short-yardage QB.

I'm not sure he is justifying his scholarship.

Liggins, ok I'll give you that... The only thing I can think of is having a position change to OL may keep him from being able to carry the ball which is why he was a TE

CJ... Dude knows how to play DE... Given our LB problems and his athleticism and size, it only makes sense... And who else would you want leading the team and making quick changes... I'd pick the guy who's been here forever and that's played every game he could

CJ isn't gonna forget how to play the speed rushing DE after spending one spring and maybe summer at MLB, so I'm okay with this.

He is definitely athletic enough to roam around the middle of the field. A MLB has to be instinctive though, and those are generally honed through years of practice and whatnot.

Liggins' scholarship seems to have been wasted. Just keep him at the short-yardage package QB and get it over with.

Wasn't CJ a linebacker out of HS?

He was but so was Breeland... He knows the position and honestly, I think he's about to turn some heads

I was bitching about his 2014 season until I discovered these statistics:

(1) 11/22 carries went for first downs
(2) 7/11 third down carries went for first downs (all were on third down and one to three yards to go)
(3) 4/4 fourth down carries went for first downs
(4) 2/4 redzone carries went for TDs

In terms of being a short-yardage QB whose main purpose on the team is to pick up first downs and TDs in short yardage situations, he was rather effective.

However, if he is supposedly going to be an NFL offensive lineman, especially considering our extreme lack of depth at the position, then why in the frick did he play short-yardage QB in 2014?

I'd be shocked if Johnson wasn't moved back to DE before the season starts.

The coaching staff promised him that he would get the chance to play QB. They kept their word. Sometimes a player has to see what's in his best interest. After last year, Liggins sees that he is not a QB or TE. At this point, he knows OL is his best shot at he NFL. The coaches aren't working with robots. Jeremy didn't want to play OL last year. He saw himself as a hybrid QB.

This was stupid to begin with.

There has been one plus-size QB in SEC history, and he led his team to one bowl game in his four years as starter.

No one truthfully believed Liggins would end up playing QB at any level past JUCO.

So, basically, we wasted important time to develop Jeremy into a serviceable offensive lineman, which is an extreme position of need for us at the moment, and, instead, bent over backwards to comport with the wishes of a selfish college kid. This is embarrassing.

He would have never had a spring or summer at QB in Baton Rouge and Les would moved him to DE or OL immediately, which was the correct thing to do.

You don't let kids run your program. This is ineffective leadership and a waste of his scholarship.

Yes, I realize this is the same justification for Robert Nkemdiche getting carries in 2013.

I seriously hope I have to eat crow when Liggins turns into an all-SEC offensive lineman.

As well, CJ wants to try linebacker. He got graded by the NFL, and they basically said that he projects strictly as a LB. He doesn't have the size to be an NFL defensive end. So, this is more of him trying to see if he can make the adjustment to being a linebacker than the coaches desires. They want to do what's best for his future. It may work, but if it doesn't he knows his DE position inside and out.

Coaches make promises, and if you lie to a kid it harms the relationship. It's a fine line to walk.
