Let's talk about Phil:
Freeze brought in Phil Longo, head of the best FCS offense in the country, to install his version of an air raid-style attack.
The 2016 Sam Houston State offense was all sorts of fun. They averaged 53.1 ppg before their playoff loss, throwing 57 percent of the time. QB completed 63 percent of his passes with an obscene 57-to-10 TD-to-INT ratio, four players caught at least 40 passes, and the top two running backs still carried enough to gain 1,656 yards at 6.1 per carry.

I'll take that. I'll take three-fourths of all that.

Anyone go to the scrimmage? Thoughts?

Watched the whole thing.
Tempo will be a weapon. Think of Auburn offense tempo, but passing. WR's and TE's will be great, QB's will be great, RB's will be good, and offensive line should HOPEFULLY be better.
Defense shined at times. DL will be awesome, LB's and DB's should be serviceable. Hoping that McGriff can instill a sense of urgency and toughness in our defense that it used to have.

Best thing I've read in a while. Keep it coming.

Appreciate the info cause that's pretty much what I heard, but glad to see someone else say it that was there. Especially with how rumors fly around. But anyways, I am still concerned about the defense. Because that's the side of the ball players get frustrated with more than others. And then not having the best of talent. Not saying we don't have any, just not enough, or like the old landshark d.
Our offense has to keep the defense off the field. And do whatever they can to motivate them. If we score quick, which is likely, or have a ton of 3 and outs, then I could see most of our games having 40 or more points on both sides of the score board. We really need them to be more aggressive and have an attitude like us verses the world. But with new coaches, NCAA lingering, and whatever else, just saying they could easily mail it in early on that side of the ball. Then if they do that, it can trickle into the locker room or the field and the offense gets frustrated.
I'm sorry this was long but really can't talk real football on the rant without everyone jumping in trolling. We will live or die depending on the defense imo. Kinda like last year. I honestly hope I'm wrong and they show out every game and shut people out. If they do that the first few games and gel plus the boost of confidence it could help alot. The offense has got to help them keep their heads up no matter what. Again sorry so long. Just glad to have a place to talk about the team.

The start of the season is much more favorable this year over last. That is for certain. We still need to play well and get it done, but at least we get a chance to wade into the season rather than diving straight into the deep end.

Couldn't have said it better. If this was last season, then it would be ugly I think. Just glad that it somehow fell to this year. Here's to hoping they get the D figured out early and mesh. Will be huge looking past the first few games.

We need time for the injuries to heal. 3 concussion protocols: Little, Bowie and Jones; Knox: foot; Hartsfield; Jefferson and Wilkins. All were expected to start, per Richard Cross.
Good news: Lodge wants to play this year.
And we are down the 2 shoplifters for South bama. (How is it that Bama and State (123 MPH man) didn't punish their 2 players who were arrested and booked?)

^^^ State is State. I try not to follow them at all. But I do see your point.

I'm not sure we would've suspended a guy for Florida State last year. Otherwise, Florida, as absurd as it seems, is probably doing the most to realistically discipline kids. Forcing Calloway and the others to miss the Michigan opener seems like a pretty big deal, especially compared to State and Bama

DL will be awesome
Are you kidding?
Name one DL in the SEC West that we will be better than?

I'd be surprised if our starting dline did not have better years than MSU's or TAMU

Starting DL if play today:
Haynes, Speaks, Coatney, Sheppard
When Benito comes back, Speaks will back up Benito and Coatney.

If you listen to some of the interviews with players I think we will see a more disciplined approach up front which will help the LBers. Really think Roach will be a home run hire. We may not have tons of depth but our starters are a talented bunch.

Some of our own fans have allowed the naysayers to get into their heads already.

On defense the problem last year was not a lack of talent in the DL or DBs (we did lack talent at LBer)....it was rather a complete lack of coaching on many different levels.

so whats going on with benito?
is he practicing?
are jordan wilkins and benito no contact for remainder of practices to get back healthy for the season?
if there are 3 people that need to be healthy
its patterson, wilkins, and benito...
followed by DK Metcalf and Dvaughn Blue Pennamon
