I mean as an atheist (I'm pretty sure I'm one the very few in our entire fanbase ) I hate how much Freeze brings religion into football but from reading that article it sounds like that the NCAA looming over us still is really the main thing that is keeping recruits from coming to Ole Miss, not his weird christian statements.

I don't find them weird. Plus we don't know what was said verbatim. So many people overreact, or at least pretend to overreact, to the least little nothing. Most are just looking for something to try and poke holes in. No biggie, honestly. And, the 24 hour news cycle propagates much of this.

so you want to fire a Sugar Bowl winning coach over a second hand quote relayed out of context by a 17 year old kid in an SB Nation interview?

Not wanting to fire him over this statement. Its a combination of our on the field product, NCAA investigation, lack of recruiting positional needs, and his questionable play calling. That is taking what I said out of context. There is no way we can fire him right now, but it will have to be done in a year or two if I had to guess. I am disgusted with the state of our program right now, and I know the NCAA investigation has a lot to do with that. However, I put the blame on him for us being in the situation we are in. In no way do I want him fired over the statement today that was probably worded to sound worse than it was, but I do want him fired once we go 6-6 or worse the next 2 years

You do realize, of course, that the recruit said his words were twisted by the reporter?

Call me crazy, but I didn't read the comments as a comparison to Jesus or a claim of religious persecution. It just seeemed like a generic haters gonna hate analogy, but because freeze is most familiar with religious subjects he chose something biblical.

I certainly would have chosen a different comparison, but I'm not gonna freak out

I think freeze has two years max. If things go swirley like I expect, he could be gone next year. Also hope Bjork goes with him.

Hugh Freeze, when investigations are not in full effect, is the best coach Ole Miss has had in my lifetime. They would be stupid to get rid of him if they don't have to.

You people need to calm the frick down.

Honestly this is the sole reason I can't stand the mother fricker.

I think he knows how to motivate kids and he can recruit well (obviously he's had help, but you have to give him credit because he's still got to finish). The only thing football wise that I would say about him is that he should have given his coordinator more reign over the offense several years ago. I'm talking about in game, obviously he knows his offense.

I just can't get past all the Christian schtick he is constantly spewing. I went to a Christian academy and I guess I just got tired of it always seeming like people were being fake for attention. It seems the farthest from genuine that I can imagine. I don't know the mans heart, just what it seems like to me.

Lolol the point of this thread was not that he needs to be fired because of the statement, but because of where we are at right now. I stated just a few posts up that it was probably worded incorrectly. Dont know how many times I have to say that. Also, I stated that there is no way we can fire him right now after one bad year, but it will have to be done after a year or two. The writings are on the wall for a couple bad more years and the fan base will grow tired soon

Agreed. Even suggesting it at this point is ridiculous bordering on comical.

One down year with lots of first string injuries =\= firing

I'm not saying the coaching was stellar, because it wasn't.

Freeze may have an issue if we have,

(1) 2 more down years, or

(2) another year as bad or worse than this one combined with more bad coaching from the new coaches and an NCAA hammer showing institutional issues up to the top.

Besides, at this point, there is no one worth a shite who would come here with the NCAA camped out on campus.

Freeze is the best OM coach since Johnny Vaught. Think about that.

What is the concensus opinion on Bjork? He is obviously the best AD that we've ever had as far as fundraising, coaching hires, being an overall competent individual at his job; but he has handled this NCAA situation horribly at best.

Do we want to fire him only to risky falling back into the good ole boys that we were used to?

What great coaching hires has he made? Matt Insell? His first hire as AD was the girls basketball coach that started the NCAA investigation at ole miss.

Really? Well if you have proof please bring it. Obviously if the NCAA had it they would whip it out and we would be punished. NOOO they are just sitting on the investigation because they don't have anything other than we beat Bama twice. Saban and Mark Emmert have been in bed with each other since LSU

Of course he should not be fired. But it's not hard to see a confluence of factors that could put him on the hot seat in the near future.

1. OM had the chance to make a statement with both coordinator jobs open. They ended up with someone who has virtually no experience running a defense and a small college guy. I hope both hires are home runs, but we could also be looking back and saying they were in over their heads.

2. Our offense should be strong the next couple of years, even without Akers. But OM badly needed a talent infusion on defense in this class to take advantage of its window with Patterson, and that ain't happening.

3. Freeze set himself up by responding so aggressively to the trolls who said OM could only get top talent by paying for it. If it turns out that a bunch of shady stuff happened on his watch, it's gonna be embarrassing for him and the university.

Imagine this - OM is OK the next two years, but does not compete for a West title. The offense is good (despite occasionally head scratching play calling), but the defense is not SEC caliber. Several of the studs from the 2016 class leave early for the NFL, and OM drops off a cliff in 2019. Meanwhile, Freeze's and the program's reputation have taken a hit because violations that happened while he was coach are worse than we expect.

I think all that is unlikely to happen, for a number of reasons. But there is food for thought.
