Seriously thinking about moving to Oxford. My wife is an OM grad from the 90s. Couple of kids. She is all for it. Loves the idea of a small town atmosphere with all the benefits of a college town.

I also like the idea. We own an internet based business and we can live anywhere in the world, so that's not an issue. Just wanted to get feedback and opinions from other people in the 40-year old range. What do you think of Oxford as a place to raise kids and maybe retire after they are gone?

Also, do you guys know many students from Oxford who stayed to go to OM? If so, what did they think of growing up there?

The only concern you may have with your kids growing up in Oxford is that it's kind of a drug hub. School district is awesome and I am very envious of you.

Only real problem I could see with living in Oxford is traffic on game weekends and the occasional interaction with a really drunk college student.
Other than that I can't think of one reason to not live here. If I could get a well paying job in this town, I may never leave. It's almost a perfect town to settle down and raise a family.

Wife and kids will be all in the middle of that. So no problems there. Maybe in 20 years it will be annoying, but not now.

Can probably shrug that off also

You guys are lucky. Back when I got out of school, in order to get a good job you had to move to a big town: Atlanta, NYC, DC, etc. You had to network, meet people, work your way up, etc.

I know its a cliche, but now with the internet, you don't have to do that. You can pick out something you like to do, and do it online and live anywhere you want. In a way, it will be revolutionary for rural/small town America.

As someone who did not go to OM, I was a little skeptical of Oxford. But the more I look into it, the more I like the idea.

I know a lot of people from Oxford and Lafayette and most of them ended up at ole miss either after high school or jc. There were only a few that I knew that wanted to get away for college. I'd love to end up in Oxford eventually. And Oxford has either just built or is in the process of building new schools

Moved back 9 years ago and LOVE it. There is always something to do in this town. The schools here are some of the best in the state. The arts, food, and music scene here is amazing. Its very family friendly but you can still go out and have fun. What's not to love? I'm 37 now and there a plenty of people my age and older that I hang out with. Do it now while the real estate is low.

I would recommend moving to Mound Bayou..or Itta Bena if you would prefer the college town experience.

I grew up in Oxford, public schools are awesome and I never came across any trouble. It is absolutely perfect and I honestly trust the town.

You'll want to leave for a little while at least. I fully plan on retiring in Oxford though.

I will definitely encourage them to move away for college, or move away after college if they go to OM. I think it's important to see different parts of the world.

And I am pumped about the school system. I keep hearing great things.

I am also excited about all of the hunting, fishing, outdoor activities in No Miss. Land is cheap and beautiful. Great place to retire on a farm.

Oxford public schools are probably the best public schools in Mississippi and the south. That wouldn't surprise me a bit. We have one of the best theaters in America.

Oxford is a great place to live. I grew up there and my parents still live there. The best thing for me is there is very little crime. You feel safe.

Oxford as well as Lafayette County both are great public schools. Both are respected schools academically as well as athletically. I graduated from Lafayette County, hence the name doresrules.(Lafayette CommoDORES)

My family has lived in basically the same area since 1848.(the earliest census I could find with ancestors on it) I plan to move back when I'm 50(20 years from now) and retiring with the wife. Plan is to build a home on our property.
