The degree plan is there in writing for you when you start college. If you're too lazy or dumb enough not to follow it then maybe you deserve an extra semester in college.
Both the advisor and the student athlete are gettig paid to make sure it happens. Its both of their faults not just one or the other.

He changed majors, the degree plan he started with isn't the one he switched to. Please, before speaking nonsense about someone being too dumb to follow the plan, know what you are talking about.
If you are changing majors, more than likely you will need help knowing what transfers to the major you switched to. Stop trying to make this about Wilkins, at this point with what we know he isn't at fault.

Was he changing majors and underloading on hours? Depending on what he was changing it to, wouldn't he be needing to play catchup? How did he end up with too few hours if he was changing majors?

My guess since I don't have his transcript would be that some of the courses that he took for the previous major did not transfer over as core credits for the new major. From rumors we are talking a hour or two short with his lowest grade this past semester being a C. If true, the guy was doing his part and just got screwed over.
Maybe there is more to the story like he was told he could drop a class or something.

Is the issue over hours taken/registered for or hours applied towards his major?

That makes sense considering the penalty, in which case people shouldn't be up in arms over whether he had enough hours. If he didn't have enough towards his new major, then things would suggest that the advisor didn't do due diligence. Regardless though, unless said advisor advised him of such at the end of July, there was ample opportunity to rectify before it'd be an issue, and clearly there's no rectification after the NCAA deadline. If people are reporting that this issue stems from his change of major, why didn't either party realize that his old classes wouldn't transfer towards his new major? Considering his worst grade was a C, what bad advice did he get and how was he put in a place where he wouldn't have had any sense that he didn't meet the minimum?
I'm of the opinion that JW is a very capable student, and his GPA should reflect such. Having been in similar situations, I do wonder what caused such a communication breakdown, and, as a sceptical observer, I have to think there's more than him purely changing majors. Having added a major and having had more friends than I can count change majors, it's ridiculous to think that our Athletic Department couldn't figure it out just because he changed his major.

Okay so he changed majors. Again its not that hard to look at the new degree plan and understand what classes qualify under your new major.
The adviser screwed up royally, but Jordan definitely could have done his due diligence to make sure he was on track. Again part of the blame is on his shoulders. He's what 21, 22 years old?

I understand what you are saying but the advisers job is to advise and Jordan's job is to play football.

The more and more I think about this, I feel for JW. He got screwed man. This potentially has ruined his future in football. The rules are the rules, but it sucks for him and I'd fully support him if he wants to transfer. We let him down.

I think he stays and plays out his senior year. If Cam signs with us though I would bolt.

If I'm him, I'm gone yesterday.

I disagree. It can be confusing and the kid was told he was good and believed the advisor he was TOLD to trust. You are basically saying that he should have thought to himself, maybe this guy who is paid to handle this for me came up 1 credit short. I am going to do the math myself and double check him. No college football player in America would have done that.

There's also no telling how well Swinney will play. He already has the chip on his shoulder, and now this is more pressure/opportunity for him to step up.

Where would you go? Is there any great program that would take him?
Posted on 8/19/16 at 11:38 am to WithaRebelYell
Idk why they wouldn't take him if his grades are fine and he has to sit out a year anyway. I'm sure a place like memphis would welcome him with open arms.
Posted on 8/19/16 at 11:38 am to WithaRebelYell
He would have to sit regardless so he could go JUCO which being a fourth year student I don't know how it would work or he could go pro. I don't think he can go to a lower division because he's academically ineligible. As for Swinney he was going to play a bunch regardless of Wilkins' status. Pennamon is the one who is going to have to get up to speed in a hurry.

Yeah I know Memphis would take him but I was wondering if he could go to a decent power 5 program.

I don't see that even being an option. He needs to play his senior year or he wont make a roster.
Posted on 8/19/16 at 11:52 am to WithaRebelYell
I didn't say he would make it
Besides sitting in Oxford for a year those are his only realistic options.
