They aren't sold on their QB.

Or their backup.

So, must rely on the run.

Their defense is not better than last year.

Machine Gun's first big test, under the lights, and he makes bad decisions.

50-50 split on which team wins.

Add: we like to run crossing routes over the middle, which is a Bama weakness.

Their TE is always open over the middle.

Their TE can't catch the ball so he's left open.

I'm a little bit weak in my understanding of how our defense works. Is Tony Connor a "Husky" or is that Hilton? Isn't the Husky really the Mike linebacker? But with more versatility to drop out in passing situations to make it a true 5-2-4 defense? If so, doesn't that mean Tony is responsible for reading the TE to decide if he will come up to provide run support or pick up the TE himself?

Someone with some football IQ help me out here....

Mike linebacker stands for middle linebacker which is cj Johnson. I believe tony plays husky which is a hybrid outside linebacker/safety.

This.

Husky (Conner)- Safety/Outside Linebacker Hybrid.

Rover (Hilton)- Our version of a Strong Safety. From what I understand, they're like a Safety/Corner/Linebacker hybrid. But I'm not completely sure. This position confuses me. No clue why it has its own name.

Because they are all over the field... IE In the box/ over the top/ across the middle. This position is supposed to be fielded by a good tackler which is why we have Hilton there this year.

This is the interesting one for me.

They seem to already been awarded best D in the land by the media. I hope the Landsharks have something to say about that.

Apart from turnovers and Breeland, they didn't the past two games, so I hope they get their fins up this Saturday.

I understand Mike is the Middle. But since we play only two linebackers, I was assuming that basically we play a Heavy package on run downs (CJ and Gates) and lighter package on pass down (Denzel and Russell). And that Conner is the "constant" as basically a Middle linebacker.

But I think what you're saying is that we play a Middle and an outside (strong side) and then Conner is basically weak side run support, or takes the TE or RB coming out of the backfield on pass plays.

We lead the nation in defense scoring TDs. It is a start.

The defense has given up 17 points.
Buchanan gave up 7.

The defense has scored 21 and Big Rob blocked a field goal.

I think the defense is doing just fine.

Guess what, Bama has two QB's who aren't very good at taken care of the ball. They are playing 2 QB's looking for 1. We are playing several QB's to keep from scoring 100.

I'm liking our chances for another defensive score this Saturday.

Bad decisions? Not in the field. Not so far.

So, must rely on the run.

I think we will be surprised at how much better we will be vs the run. With Speaks coming on, DJ Jones, Woody, And of course RN; we will see a much larger DLine for teams we know will commit to the run. Bama, LSU, and ARK. i think that is something they specifically addressed this offseason.

Agreed, they have yet to play very well. I know, I know, the turnovers and the touchdowns, but a lot of missed assignments and not a lot of passion. That should change Saturday.

Yeah we play a 4-2-5 so when the opposing team spreads it out he can line up over a slot. But the two linebackers(CJ and Denzel) are constant and Connor does not play those positions.

And I'm not sure if he goes to the strong or weak side. I'm sure it's differs in different formations. Honestly I don't pay enough attention to it

I'm not worried about our defensive line against the run, but our linebackers need a little work. CJ can't miss his assignments/gaps. Need him to play big

I'd like to know what games you guys were watching to say the defense hasn't been anything but great. The first team defense has played all of 2 quarters at best. They've played base defense regardless if something else was better suited for certain looks. As Jeffrey Wright mentioned we've only blitzed 14 times in two games.

The defense is fine.

As far as playing with emotion, that's like me telling you to play a 4 year old in a pickup game of basketball and expecting you to go full effort.

I'm more worried about Drake on the jet sweep/ screen game then I am about Henry. Drake is an x-factor. If we don't take good angles and tackle he will gash us.
