It's time for us to move forward and find some semblance of happiness by dreaming about who we could hire.

These are the most reasonable and likely candidates I can think of off of the top of my head:

Charlie Strong
Mike MacIntyre
Lane Kiffin
Neal Brown
Scott Satterfield
Mike Norvell

Not in any order, but we should reach out to:

Scottie Montgomery (ECU)
Major Applewhite (Houston)
Chad Morris (SMU)
Philip Montgomery (Tulsa)
Frank WIlson (UTSA)
Mike Bobo (Colorado St)
Matt Wells (Utah St)
Scott Satterfield (App St)
Neal Brown (Troy)

could we really hire lane kiffin a known ladies man after this? also chris kiffin would come back so its not as clean of a slate. though i think chris kiffin ncaa infractions are laughable.

charlie strong would be a home run.
and keep longo i think his offense and strong defense would be great.
charlie strong or derrick mason would be my top choice.
they have strong morals great defense and african americans could relate to african american athletes in the south.

think mike norvell would be great too, he has done wonders at memphis.
could we get justin fuente from va tech?
mike macintyre would be fine as well

my only draw back is i really think longo could be a great o coordinator so this fall will be his proving ground.
if his offense works we should keep him and get a defensive minded head coach.

In the most WAOM move ever we'll hire Matt Luke

Why the hell would you want Derrick Mason? He can't get out of his own way at vanderbilt

I agree with strong or mason as long as we have a sharp offensive guy.

This season is a catch 22. Do good and you get stuck with Matt Luke, do bad get a better coach.

Chad Morris
Frank Wilson

These are the two that intrigue me the most. Not sure if they would want to take on all the baggage though.

Why Scottie? I get that he's a Cutcliffe guy but he had a really, really mediocre first year at ECU.

Bruce Feldman says that he wouldn't be shocked to see Luke retain the full time gig. Lord no.

So an assistant who has been an assistant while their have been major NCAA violations is going to be given the head job....

Either he's a cheater (NCAA) too, or has his head so deep in the sand that he shouldn't be the head guy anyways

Not to mention his lines have been clueless and sucked at all times. He was not even a good assistant.

Actually, I think it's time to double down and offer Mike Leach a chance in the SEC

No decent candidate is taking the job until he knows what the penalties are, so let's hope that gets cleared up during the season.

Also, it's natural for fans and fan sites to throw out the sexiest names they think might possibly consider taking the job, but a lot of those are pipe dreams.

Whoever takes over in 2018 is going to be working with back-to-back subpar recruiting classes, and the crown jewels of 2016, if they pan out, will be looking to go pro.

So you're looking at a couple of down years, at least, before you can get the program trending up again. Why would a Strong or an Applewhite sign up for that when they can get better offers with a couple of good years where they are now?

IMO more realistic targets would be guys who would see the job as "jumping a level," i.e. they wouldn't normally be considered for a job like this, but they are because of the mess surrounding the program.

I am intrigued by Charlie Strong, Chad Morris and Mike Bobo.

Charlie Strong is a D-minded coach and if Longo's offense works this season they just might compliment each other very well.

The offense Morris runs is similar to Longo's so it would be good. Plus, correct me if I am wrong but isn't he known as a good recruiter.

Mike Bobo has taken the Buffalos to heights they haven't seen since the 1990's. If he can do that in a liberal who cares about football Boulder he can right the ship in Oxford.

My preferred pick on that list would be Strong, assuming boosters could not pull a Texas and actually support a black coach, but I'd be shocked if we get a recognizable name if the NCAA still cripples the job. We're gonna hire Matt Luke if he somehow wins 6 games with a roster talented enough to win way more than that. We're gonna hire some no-name if Luke shows he can't run the ship

Please no to Mike Bobo. Mike MacIntyre is who I want.

I have a strong fear that we'll end up pulling a LSU and hire Matt Luke permanently.
