“This shameful and ignorant act is an insult to all Americans and a violation of our most strongly-held values,” said Attorney General Eric Holder. “No one should ever be made to feel threatened or intimidated because of what they look like or who they are. By taking appropriate action to hold wrongdoers accountable, the Department of Justice is sending a clear message that flagrant infringements of our historic civil rights will not go unnoticed or unpunished.”

Glad to see he's doing important things, like race baiting.

Don't really see how that's race baiting nor anything being wrong in what he said

This isn't really a DOJ case.

It should be a vandalism to property over $xxx and not much more.

I mean... True... But he hung a noose around the statue of James Meredith... That's pretty significant

Well, had he hung it from the fricking Tad Pad, Holder would bring the same charge. He's a clown.

It's an indictment, not charges. He's being indicted for civil rights crimes of intimidation of African Americans or something like that. I hate what he did and wish he could get charged with something, but I think they are overplaying their hand with what they're trying to charge him with because in actuality he vandalized an inanimate object with no one around, and it sets scary precident to start getting charged with federal hate crimes for things similar to this.

Not to mention, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd almost forgotten about it.

With this level of a case, it'll be back in the news.

Eric Holder is from the Bronx, has no affiliation with the university, and this shouldn't be a case that should interest the Department of Justice. If Eric Holder was white, he wouldn't have said a damn word about it and may have never heard of it.

I mean, I have certainly done and said my fair share of dumb shite, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for the kid. That really is some hateful shite right there.

Not to mention, what a weird way to get your kicks. I'm sure the kid was drunk, but what a lame way to spend your night. Go chase some pussy or something you stupid little ginger.

I know you're not saying this is an excuse but i know people that say "Oh it's just a kid making a dumb mistake". Well. Mistakes have consequences.

I'm not sure how he can be charged for anything other than vandalism, racism really shouldn't have anything to do with it.

I agree and disagree. I agree this shouldn't go to federal court but on the other hand I want this douche to be made an example of so the current students on campus know this isn't something to screw around with.

Corporations are people. Perhaps bronze statues are people too.

I will forever detest Holder and the DoJ for what they did to online poker, but I have no problem with this and he really tried to get in my good graces when he barred local and state police from using federal law to seize cash, cars and other property without warrants or criminal charges. I doubt there will be a conviction and I kind of hope there won't be because that may be a little harsh but you have to consider the symbolism behind what the kid did and where he did it. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with writing it off as "just a dumb mistake" because there was a very vicious message behind it.
