Freeze vs Bill MacCartney

Watched "The Gospel of Coach Mac" last night and saw a lot of similarities between he and Freeze. The biggest difference though was coaching pedigree. MacCartney cut his teeth learning under Bo Shembechler at Michigan while Freeze was under the tutelage of one Ed Orgeron. This shows me that while Freeze is a great leader, motivator, and recruiter, he has to go all in on his scheme. MacCartney won a national championship running the triple option. We run a spread offense but hired personnel who lack experience in that facet. Cleaning out the staff is not the right answer, but we desperately need to add more guys with a background in running a spread offense and another voice on the defensive side of things in order to become a better adaptive and multiple unit.

The only similarities you can draw here is that they're both radical Christians who happen to be players coaches and good recruiters. What McCartney did would be the equivalent of someone turning the Kansas Jaywhawks into a national power within the next five years. Colorado won just 6 games in the three year stretch before the hire and had the fortitude to stick with Mac after he won just 5 in his first three years. That's a program winning just 11 games in 6 years for anyone saying Colorado wouldn't be comparable to today's KU Jayhawks. Ole Miss was in much better shape in 2012 than Colorado was in 1982
The point I'm trying to make here is that Bill McCartney was an excellent coach. Huge Freeze will never be anything more than an average gameday coach with exceptional recruiting capabilities

McCartney slept in his office, couldn't tell you what day of the week it was, and almost lost his wife and family over CU. That job changed him immensely and it's been in shambles since he left.
It's my belief, CU doesn't want to have a football program any more.

And that Hugh Freeze took a team with less talent than Arkansas State and got them bowl eligible in one season. (When Malzahn and McElwain got to their respective schools at least they had some talent on their rosters.)
Freeze has only been coaching for 4 years and brought more success than any other coach has done at Ole Miss in almost 50 years. He does need more money so he can hire better assistant coaches. He also needs to grow some balls and fire people when they don't perform. Other than that I have no fricking idea what you are talking about.

He compared Hugh Freeze to Bill McCartney, a guy that won a national championship at fricking Colorado. I really didn't slander Freeze. It is what it is. The common narrative is that it's only Freeze's fourth year and to give him time, etc. I'd be aboard that train of thought as well if I noticed any sign of him evolving as a head coach. He is constantly making the same mistakes he made in 2012 and it's just unacceptable considering the amount of talent on the roster. Hugh Freeze wil win 7-9 games annually and always bring in a good to borderline great recruiting class. Nothing more, nothing less. No amount of money or staff overhaul will change this

Besides Kiffin what coach do you think is above average? I can't name one.

I like Grant Heard but yeah, I agree with you. That's the thing though, Freeze doesn't have the mental ineptitude to tell these guys to pack their shite and gtfo because after all, here at Ole Miss we're a family and families stick together (or whatever else type of cornball shite he's previously said). A team is an embodiment of the head coach and we're super soft

I like Heard and Werner. Wommack is ok, not great.

That's the first thing that you've ever posted that I've seriously agreed with.

Then CHF needs to pull his Coordinators aside and say your respective staffs have to perform better. Give them measurable goals to attain and give them the leash to make changes if they think they should (ie. personnel decisions). If they make changes on their staffs great. If not and they don't accomplish the agreed upon goals then he has grounds to move in a different direction. Personally think he should have done this last year.

You are absolutely right.

That was the point of my post....essentially Freeze has a below average coaching pedigree and needs above average coordinators in order to aid him and protect him from himself. So I do believe that he can succeed if he hires the right people and only handles program building and recruiting. If Colorado can win big then so can Ole Miss with a little good fortune.

That 5th Down against Missouri sure helped Colorado.

It's not like we can scour America for the best coordinators in all of the land. Ole Miss will for the the most part always be Ole Miss. You should just accept it. If you have delusions of grandeur about winning championships, get to know me personally and cut my brake lines or put a hit out on me. The year after I pass away Ole Miss will most certainly win the SEC and probably go on to with a national championship

I will be shocked if Hugh fires an assistant.

If I was an Ole Miss assistant on the hot seat and skeptical that Hugh was looking to make a change, all I'd do was show him a wallet picture of my kid. Freeze would say "look at that lil Rebel, ain't he sumn!" and reconsider.

Hmmm, nah....rather not watch it happen from inside Parchman

No delusions of grandeur here...........the point of fandom is to have some type of hope. Anything is possible, maybe not realistic, but possible none the less.

Sancho - I watched the 30 for 30 a few days ago.
How can the coach be a Christian and knowingly allow the referee to award a 5th down?
My favorite line from the show said by a Col. QB: "What does the N in Nebraska stand for? Answer: Knowledge."
