He's what, 3-1 at this point? We get it at home again next year, and by all accounts, are widening the talent gap between the two teams each year now. When will we lose another egg bowl? I can't see it happening anytime in the near future.

Shhhhh...

If the game had one more quarter in it we would have lost.

I love Freeze. I love our team. But that conservative O and D play after getting ahead has to stop. It lost us the Memphis game, and could have cost us further this season.

I don't think Freeze has ever been in a fist fight. You beat someone until they can't get up or they quit. That's how football is played, too.

Conservative won the game. You keep throwing down field like in 1st half and three things could happen. You keep scoring. You stalk a drive and don't fake jack squat off he clock which gives them time to mount a comeback. Or you throw a pick six which gives back the gains of the 1st half. He went conservative and trusted his D. He made the right call. Had we not scored a single point in he 2nd half we still win.

Exactly. I've got zero problem with anything Freeze did last night. Had we not missed two gimme field goals that game would have felt like it was over half way through the 4th quarter. We actually did a fairly good job of burning clock as well which is a first this season if memory serves me correctly.

I agree. Three and outs and int's let the other team back in much quicker. One complaint was snapping the ball w/ 17 seconds still left on the play clock. I think that may have been at the end of the second quarter.

We were running the ball well. After we got up, no reason not to get a little more conservative and run it

I'm afraid conservative will lose us our bowl game against a Big 12 offense. Freeze will turn the heat off mid way through the second quarter after going ahead 2 touchdowns. Wommack will pull the coverage back and cede the underneath and flats to their O.

Frankly, it's not so much that Freeze goes conservative, it's just that they can't turn it back on when the other team gains momentum. If there was a flip that could switch it back on-then fine-sit on the ball (find me a team that can actually do this). But if you're not able to do so, then keep pressing the fight.

This is an issue, without Conner out there healthy roaming the middle range passing lanes we suck at the soft cover 2.

What we are good at is getting after the qb and the RB's.

Mindset should be fast until 50 on offense. Then turn the run game on.

Defense should be in full landshark mode until we are up 5 TD's. Hell, they get tired playing more minutes and the soft cover 2 keeps them on the field too long.

First half we are up 28-3. We played fast and attacked on defense. There was only a couple of minutes difference in time of possession in favor of state. If you can beat a team 56 to 6, then do it. Get the damn defense off the field with 3 and outs.

Has anyone noticed that when we play the soft cover 2, we also tackle soft?

I thought that exact thing last night. When we're not attacking, it's arm tackles and grabbing at backs and receivers as they go by. It also allows the blockers on O to set up their blocks better when we're hanging back.

It makes sense if the drives continue to work, but once you have two or three 1:00 three and outs, the defense would be gassed. You have to put some trust in the defense. Also the soft coverage isn't as tiring on a defense. Its a tough thing to know when to ease off the gas.

I did. He started getting conservative before the first half was done. You shouldn't get conservative until the 3rd Quarter.

Also, I don't mind running the ball with the purpose of being conservative, but be smart about it, don't run Walton up the middle for no gain, use Judd or Wilkins.

We wouldn't have gotten conservative at 28-3 if football is a 5 quarter game.

We said the same thing after the 2008 season. We beat MSU 45-0 and there was no chance anything would change.

Never assume.

I 100% agree. When you mix it up you beat them down. Once they are down you give then a swift kick in the grape until they submit.

If Freeze kept pressing and Kelly threw a INT that lead to a MSU run, you guys wouldn't have lived it down..."why keep pushing when you are up 28-3.."

That is exactly what would have been said.

I'm not assuming. It's a fact that we are better than they are and are widening the gap...

It's amazing how their rhetoric has gone from: "I'm so glad we're not star chasers. I'd rather develop diamonds."

To: "What changes do we need to make in order to compete with OM in recruiting?"

Also, 24 hours later, and their melts are picking up steam. They're eating their young over there.

It's glorious.
